Breeding value of 2n pollen (diplandroids) in tetraploid x diploid crosses in potatoes

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1975
The relative breeding value of first division restitution (FDR) and second division restitution (SDR) 2n male gametes from diploids, and n (2x) gametes from tetraploids were compared. This was done by measuring tuber yield of 105 4x families obtained from 4x x 2x (FDR), 4x x 2x (SDR), and 4x x 4x crosses at two locations.

Production of 2n Gametes in Diploid Subspecies of Dactylis glomerata L. 1. Occurrence and Frequency of 2n Pollen

Annals of Botany, 1992
The occurrence of plants producing 2n pollen was ascertained in nine diploid (2n = 2x = 14) subspecies of the polyploid grass complex Dactylis glomerata by determining the ploidy level of the progeny in 100 tetraploid (4X) × diploìd (2X) crosses. The possibility of using pollen size to screen for plants which produce large quantities of 2n pollen was ...

Megagametophyte organization in diploid alfalfa meiotic mutants producing 4n pollen and 2n eggs

Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1995
Megagametogenesis was studied in five diploid alfalfa mutants producing 4n pollen and 2n eggs, using a stain-clearing technique. All mutants produced embryo sacs with a variable number of supernumerary nuclei both at the early (bi- and tetra-nucleate) and at the late (eight-nucleate) stages of development.

High temperature exposure did not affect induced 2n pollen viability in Populus

Plant, Cell & Environment, 2018
AbstractHigh temperature exposure is widely used as a physical mutagenic agent to induce 2n gametes in Populus. However, whether high temperature exposure affects induced 2n pollen viability remains unknown. To clarify whether high temperature exposure affected the induced 2n pollen viability, 2n pollen induced by 38 and 41 °C temperatures, pollen ...

Slow-growing pollen-tube of colchicine-induced 2n pollen responsible for low triploid production rate in Populus

Euphytica, 2017
To reveal the mechanism of low triploid production, meiotic observation, induction of 2n pollen by colchicine, hybridization of colchicine-induced 2n pollen and pollen germination were conducted in Populus tomentosa clone 5088. Meiosis of the PMCs was initiated 24 h after it was cultured in the greenhouse. Results showed that the meiosis developed in a

Induction of 2n pollen formation in Begonia by trifluralin and N2O treatments

Euphytica, 2009
In this study, treatments of both trifluralin (at 10, 100 and 1000 μM) and N2O (in the form of gas under pressure) were applied to Begonia flower buds to induce the formation of 2n pollen. Three male fertile species (B. cucullata, B. subvillosa var. leptotricha and B. fischeri) and two male sterile hybrids (B. schmidtiana × B.

Production of 2n pollen of Asiatic hybrid lilies by nitrous oxide treatment

Euphytica, 2006
Tetraploid varieties of lilies have superior agronomic traits such as large flowers and resistance to physiological disorders. In the present study, we attempted to induce 2n pollen of Asiatic hybrid lilies by arresting the meiotic process with nitrous oxide (N2O) gas.
