Separation of 2n Potato Pollen from a Heterogeneous Pollen Mixture by Velocity Sedimentation [PDF]
A method is described for separating large and small pollen effectively from a heterogeneous mixture. This method potentially is applicable to separation of pollen grains of different ploidy levels, since “unreduced” 2n pollen is larger than normal pollen (n); it might then be used to increase the efficiency of a breeding program employing sexual ...

The Chromosome Number of Schaffnerella Gracilis (Gramineae, Chloridoideae) [PDF]
The first ever chromosome report for the monotypic genus Schaffnerella (Grarnineae, Chloridoideae) is 2n = 20 (10 II) from pollen parent cells at diakinesis, which indicates diploidy and a base number of 10. The close relative Lycurus likewise has x = 10,

Toward in vitro fertilization in Brachiaria spp. [PDF]
Brachiaria are forage grasses widely cultivated in tropical areas. In vitro pollination was applied to accessions of Brachiaria spp. by placing pollen of non-dehiscent anthers on a solid medium near isolated ovaries.

Phylogenetic relationships in Betula (Betulaceae) based on AFLP markers [PDF]
The genus Betula comprises various species in boreal and temperate climate zones of the Northern Hemisphere. The taxonomy of Betula is controversial and complicated by parallel evolution of morphological traits, polyploidization events, and extensive ...

Use of 2n Giant Pollen to Produce Nonaploid Japanese Persimmon [PDF]
Distribution of pollen diameter of Japanese persimmon cv. Zenjimaru (2n = 6x, × = 15) was determined using pollen grains hydrated with CPW solution supplemented with 0.9 M mannitol. Mean diameter of giant pollen grains (65 μm) was 1.3 times longer than that of normal pollen grains (50 μm).

Unreduced megagametophyte production in lemon occurs via three meiotic mechanisms, predominantly second-division restitution [PDF]
Unreduced (2n) gametes have played a pivotal role in polyploid plant evolution and are useful for sexual polyploid breeding in various species, particularly for developing new seedless citrus varieties.

A general stochastic model for sporophytic self-incompatibility [PDF]
Disentangling the processes leading populations to extinction is a major topic in ecology and conservation biology. The difficulty to find a mate in many species is one of these processes.

Induction of viable 2n pollen in sterile Oriental × TrumpetLiliumhybrids [PDF]
ABSTRACTIn order to induce viable 2n pollen from highly sterile diploid Oriental × Trumpet (OT) (Lilium), N2O was used to treat flower buds of four sterile diploid OT cultivars (‘Nymph’, ‘Gluhwein’, ‘Yelloween’, and ‘Shocking’) at different stages of meiosis. There was no pollen germination in the controls.
