Hypothalamic neuronal activity responses to 3-hydroxybutyric acid, an endogenous organic acid

Brain Research, 1990
To elucidate the anorectic action of the endogenous organic acid, 3-hydroxybutyric acid (3-HBA), its effects on neurons in both the rat ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMH) and the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) were examined. Iontophoretic application of 3-HBA significantly facilitated the firing rate of VMH neurons, whereas facilitation and ...

Properties and drug release behaviour of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) and various poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-hydroxyvalerate) copolymer microcapsules

Journal of Microencapsulation, 1995
Microcapsules of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) [PHB] and its copolymers with hydroxyvalerate [HV] were prepared by the solvent evaporation technique and loaded with a model drug, 2,7-dichlorofluorescein. Microcapsules were also prepared from the same polymers by incorporating a polyphosphate-Ca+2 complex into the membrane.

Acetic acid and 3-hydroxybutyric acid levels in cerebrospinal fluid of cattle

Animal Science Journal, 2002
To evaluate the importance of acetic acid and 3-hydroxybutyric acid (3-HB) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of cattle, CSF samples were taken from a population of 60 cattle including healthy and sick animals with central nervous disorders. Mean acetic acid and 3-HB levels in blood plasma were 0.30 (SD 0.24) and 0.30 (SD 0.28) mM, and those in CSF were 0.14

Characterization of Rheological Properties of poly (3-hydroxybutyric acid)

2005 Tampa, FL July 17-20, 2005, 2005
To process poly (3-hydroxybutyric acid) (PHB) more efficiently, rheological properties of PHB at different temperatures are needed. There are several fundamentals tests available to characterize PHB such as shear stress as a function of shear rate, stress sweep, frequency sweep and dynamic rheological tests.

3-Hydroxybutyric Acid Interacts with Lipid Monolayers at Concentrations That Impair Consciousness

Langmuir, 2013
3-Hydroxybutyric acid (also referred to as β-hydroxybutyric acid or BHB), a small molecule metabolite whose concentration is elevated in type I diabetes and diabetic coma, was found to modulate the properties of 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) monolayers when added to the subphase at clinical concentrations.

Effects of Fatty Acids on Growth and Poly-3-hydroxybutyrate Production in Bacteria

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2005
The effects of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids (lauric acid, palmitic acid, steric acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, soybean oil) on Sphaerotilus natans, 0B17 (Pseudomonas sp.), and recombinant Escherichia coli DH5(/pUC19/CAB were studied. Oleic acid enhances Poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production in these three bacterial strains, suggesting that

Functionalized poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) bodies as new in vitro biocatalysts

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2018
Cytochromes P450 play a key role in the drug and steroid metabolism in the human body. This leads to a high interest in this class of proteins. Mammalian cytochromes P450 are rather delicate. Due to their localization in the mitochondrial or microsomal membrane, they tend to aggregate during expression and purification and to convert to an inactive ...

Efficient production of ( R )-3-hydroxybutyric acid by Pseudomonas sp. DS1001a and its extracellular poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) depolymerase

Process Biochemistry, 2016
Abstract We demonstrate a novel strategy to produce ( R )-3-hydroxybutyric acid [( R )-3-HB] using Pseudomonas sp. DS1001a or its extracellular poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) depolymerase. While approximately 77.8% PHB was degraded by Pseudomonas sp.

Synthesis and accumulation of poly(3-hydroxybutyric acid) by Rhizobium sp.

Acta Biologica Hungarica, 2000
Forty-two Rhizobium strains obtained from different culture collections were evaluated quantitatively for poly(3-hydroxy-butyric acid) [PHB] production in shake flask culture. The majority of the strains produced the maximum amount of PHB during the late exponential or stationary phase of growth.
