A slowly formed transient conformer of Aβ1–40 is toxic to inward channels of dissociated hippocampal and cortical neurons of rats

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2003
The mechanism by which amyloid peptide (Aβ1–40) produces effects on neurotransmission is currently unresolved. In initial experiments, using the patch-clamp technique, we found that 11.5 μM of preaggregated Aβ1–40 altered the hippocampal neuron resting ...

Mechanical and Electrical Phenotype of hiPSC‐Cardiomyocytes on Fibronectin‐Based Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce fibronectin‐based PEG hydrogels with controlled rigidity to enable the culture of iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes. These substrates offer an alternative to the current culture of these cells on fibronectin‐coated glass, providing enhanced structural and functional behavior. The system provides a more physiologically relevant platform to assess

Un sistema operativo per la previsione dell'energia da moto ondoso

open access: yesGEOmedia, 2019
A forecast system of sea waves has been developed and has been operatively running since June 2013. The forecasts are performed over the entire Mediterranean basin with a horizontal resolution of about 3.5 km and, at a higher resolution, over ten ...

Spin‐Split Edge States in Metal‐Supported Graphene Nanoislands Obtained by CVD

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combining STM measurements and ab‐initio calculations, we show that zig‐zag edges in graphene nanoislands grown on Ni(111) by CVD retrieve their spin‐polarized edge states after intercalation of a few monolayers of Au. ABSTRACT Spin‐split states localized on zigzag edges have been predicted for different free‐standing graphene nanostructures.

Experimental Study for HIx Concentration by Electro-Electrodialysis (EED) Cells in the Water Splitting Sulfur-Iodine Thermochemical Cycle

open access: yesChemEngineering, 2019
The efficiency of HI concentration/separation from a HIx solution, (mixture of HI/H2O/I2) represents a crucial factor in the sulfur-iodine thermochemical water splitting process for hydrogen production. In this paper, an experimental study on HI cathodic

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.
