Well‐Defined Nickel Precatalysts: Form, Function, and Application

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This review provides guidance on which nickel precatalysts to choose for a given application or which properties to prioritize in reaction development. A summary of the ease of synthesis, stability, diversity, accessibility, modularity, and general applicability is provided along with a related infographic.

Phosphonomethyl (Thio)Phosphonamidite Reagents for the Construction of Phosphonylmethyl Phosphono(Di)Thioate Mono‐ and Diesters

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
A set of new phosphonomethyl (thio)phosphonamidite reagents is introduced to generate unprecedented pyrophosphate mimetics. The versatile P(III)‐P(V) reagents allow for the construction of various pyrophosphate isosteres, and the applicability of the chemistry is illustrated in the assembly of a diverse set of stabilized CDP‐glycerol and CDP‐ribitol ...

Phosphanyl Radicals From Bismuth‐Mediated Reactions and Sterically Encumbered Diphosphanes

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Reactions of LiPR2 with BiCl3 selectively give diphosphanes R2P–PR2 in high yields, presumably via Bi─P homolysis. This includes challenging cases with bulky substituents R. Sterically encumbered diphosphanes release persistent phosphanyl radicals [PR2]• in thermally initiated equilibrium reactions.

Reversible Assembly and Disassembly of σ‐Aromatic B3 Rings

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
B3 rings are the smallest σ‐aromatic boron compounds. Here, we show for the first time that cationic diboranes with an electron‐precise (2c,2e) bond can be reversibly converted to σ‐aromatic B3 rings with electron‐deficient (3c,2e) bonding. Base‐induced disassembly of the B3 ring leads back to cationic diboranes and monoborane adducts.

Deciphering the phosphorylation of chitosan through complementary 1H and 31P{1H} DOSY NMR

open access: yesCarbohydrate Polymer Technologies and Applications
Chemical modification of chitosan through phosphorylation has gained significant attention for expanding its applications. However, confirming whether phosphorylating agents form covalent bonds with the chitosan backbone or remain as non-covalently ...

Si(OTeF5)4 – A Strong, Homoleptic Pentafluoroorthotellurate‐Based Lewis Superacidic Silane

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
The homoleptic pentafluoroorthotellurate‐based silane Si(OTeF5)4 was synthesized and fully characterized via spectroscopic techniques. The Lewis superacidic properties were investigated theoretically as well as experimentally and its utilization as a Lewis acid is demonstrated by the reaction with nitrogen bases.
