Effects of 32P decay on enzyme synthesis

Cultures of Escherichia coli 15T − inactivated by 32 P decay to a survival of 0·1% are capable of synthesizing phosphatase at about 25% of the rate found in completely viable cells. These cultures also retain a similar fraction of their ability to form β -galactosidase, if no energy source is present during the induction.
