3D input for 3D worlds

Proceedings of the 19th Australasian conference on Computer-Human Interaction: Entertaining User Interfaces, 2007
Virtual Worlds present a 3D space to the user. However, input devices are typically 2D. This unnatural mapping reduces the engagement of the experience. We are exploring using Wii controllers to provide 3D gesture-based input to the 3D virtual world, Second Life.

3D sketching for 3D object retrieval

Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2020
Sketching provides the most natural way to provide a visual search query for visual object search. However, how to draw 3D sketches in a three-dimensional space and how to use a hand-drawn 3D sketch to search similar 3D models are not only interesting and novel, but also challenging research topics.

Geodesic Distances for 3D-3D and 2D-3D Face Recognition

Multimedia and Expo, 2007 IEEE International Conference on, 2007
In this paper, we propose an original framework for representing 2D and 3D face information using geodesic distances. This aims to define a representation enabling the direct comparison between 2D face images of an individual against its 3D face model. This representation is extracted by measuring geodesic distances in 2D and 3D.

3D or not 3D: a guide to assess cell viability in 3D cell systems

Soft Matter, 2022
The study aims at revealing the influence of particular 3D cell systems’ parameters such as the components’ concentration, gel thickness, cell density, on the cell viability and applicability of standard assays based on different cell properties.

Vesuvius-3D: A 3D-DfT demonstrator

2014 International Test Conference, 2014
IMEC and Cadence have jointly developed a 3D-DfT architecture that serves both 2.5D- and 3D-SICs. Originally targeting stacks of monolithic logic-only dies, over time this architecture has been extended to include (1) memory-on-logic stacks, (2) complex SOCs, and (3) multi-tower stacks.

3D or not 3D - that is the question!

ACM SIGGRAPH 2006 Educators program on - SIGGRAPH '06, 2006
Should an introduction to 3D computer graphics and animation be a part of a general core curriculum requirement for all design majors regardless their concentration, track or degree? At ACM-SIGGRAPH it is taken for granted that a working knowledge of 3D computer graphics is a valuable if not necessary part of a versatile skill set to prepare design ...

The 3D-3D Registration Problem Revisited

2007 IEEE 11th International Conference on Computer Vision, 2007
We describe a new framework for globally solving the 3D-3D registration problem with unknown point correspondences. This problem is significant as it is frequently encountered in many applications. Existing methods are not fully satisfactory, mainly due to the risk of local minima.
