3D Spatial Operations in Geo DBMS Environment for 3D GIS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Next generation of GIS software should be able to manipulate and analyse complex situations of real world phenomena. One of the desired components in such software or system is the geometric modeling that works with 3D spatial operations. This paper presents a portion of problem that we currently attempt to solve, that is the 3D spatial operations for ...

3d-Gis for Urban Purposes

GeoInformatica, 1998
New developments in urban planning, especially in environmentally oriented analysis including noise, air pollution, urban climate etc., call for new demands on authorities and planners. Due to the increasing availability of informations systems and of 3D-data, planners and municipalities emphasize modeling the urban space in three dimensions. While the

3D Topological modeling and visualisation for 3D GIS

Computers & Graphics, 1999
Abstract Beyond Virtual Reality, 3D Geographical Information Systems should provide efficient spatial analysis tools able to use all capabilities of the third dimension, and a visualization that could operate on the results of queries. To address these issues, this paper presents a fully 3D topological model that was implemented in an object-oriented

3D Navigation for 3D-GIS — Initial Requirements

2007
The needs for three-dimensional (3D) visualization and navigation within 3D-GIS environment are growing and expanding rapidly in a variety of fields. In a steady shift from traditional two-dimensional (2D) GIS toward 3D-GIS, a great amount of accurate 3D data sets (e.g.

Procedural Modeling in 3D GIS Environment

International Journal of 3-D Information Modeling, 2014
3D space registration and visualization has become an imperative need in order to optimally reflect all complex cases of rapid urbanization of property rights and restrictions. Besides, current technological advances as well as the availability of sophisticated software packages (proprietary or open source) call for 3D modeling especially in the GIS ...

The Integration Methods of 3D GIS and 3D CAD

2007
GIS (Geographical Information System) and CAD (Computer Aided Design) have evolved largely in the past 30 years. GIS and CAD describe the same real-world objects but they belong to different domains. The spatial and non-spatial data involved in the two systems are quite different and the two systems cater for different applications.

GIS and 3D Modelling for Cultural Heritage

Digital Urban History. Telling the History of the City in the Age of ICT Revolution edited by Rosa Tamborino, 2014
The use of digtial technologies inside historical studies isnot a new, but it cannot be considered completely understood as far as thier potentialities are concerned. Sometimes the use of these technolgies is considered just as a different way to represent the results of the historical researches and not a new opportunity to increase the research ...

Marine GIS: Progress in 3D Visualization for Dynamic GIS

2008
The paper presents the advancements in our work on 3D visualization for GIS. In (Gold et al 2004) we presented the idea of a dynamic GIS system that uses 3D graphics for data visualization. The system presented there – the Marine GIS – was at a preliminary stage, and was built mainly to show the potential of 3D gaming approach for GIS.
