3D Geographic Visualization: The Marine GIS

2006
The objective of GIS and Spatial Data Handling is to view, query and manipulate a computer simulation of the real world. While we traditionally work with two-dimensional static maps, modern technology allows us to work with a three-dimensional dynamic environment. We have developed a generic graphics component which provides many of the tools necessary

Interactive 3D visualization of vector data in GIS

Proceedings of the tenth ACM international symposium on Advances in geographic information systems - GIS '02, 2002
Vector data represents one major category of data managed by GIS. This paper presents a new technique for vector-data display that is able to precisely and efficiently map vector data on 3D objects such as digital terrain models. The technique allows the system to adapt the visual mapping to the context and user needs and enables users to interactively

Pocket panorama: 3D GIS on a handheld device

Fourth International Conference on Web Information Systems Engineering Workshops, 2003. Proceedings., 2004
Pocket Panorama, an original client-server application, provides mapping data and 3D terrain visualizations to a handheld pocket PC. The pocket PC acts as a client to a server PC, which contains all data and performs all display manipulations. The terrain visualization displayed on the client uses the GPS positions transmitted by the pocket PC.

A New Hybrid Data Structure for 3D GIS

First International Conference on Innovative Computing, Information and Control - Volume I (ICICIC'06), 2006
In order to represent 3D GIS spatial entity effectively, a hybrid data structure model called BOT model (block octree tetrahedron model) is presented on the basis of geological block model, which combines octree and tetrahedral network (TEN) structures. With BOT generation algorithm, the block model is redivided with octree as general shape description

Development of Submarine Pipeline 3D GIS Platform

2013 Seventh International Conference on Image and Graphics, 2013
During offshore oil exploration, we must take regular investigation and inspections of submarine pipeline, and also need to effectively manage this historic and current information with respect to the oil pipeline, such as the position of pipeline, seabed topography and relief around the pipeline, seabed sediment compositions and so on, so that we can ...

Research on Context-Sensitive 3D Web-GIS

2009 WRI World Congress on Computer Science and Information Engineering, 2009
Context-awareness is increasingly becoming an important capability in devices for ubiquitous computing environments. These devices use on-board sensors and history of user interaction to collect data that are used to adapt their behavior to suit with the current environment.
