Tragedy of the Regulatory Commons: LightSquared and the Missing Spectrum Rights [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The endemic underuse of radio spectrum constitutes a tragedy of the regulatory commons. Like other common interest tragedies, the outcome results from a legal or market structure that prevents economic actors from executing socially efficient bargains ...

Stoma‐Shell Nanoarchitecture for Enhanced Plasma Confinement Catalysis in Synthesis of Ethanol from CO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
High‐energy electron impact in plasma catalysis often causes excessive dissociation of active intermediates, limiting C2+ product selectivity. To address this challenge, a bio‐inspired stoma‐shell nanoarchitecture is designed to decouple electron impact from catalytic reaction zones.

P2.03 THE PLASMINOGEN ACTIVATOR INHIBITOR-1 (4G/5G) POLYMORPHISM AFFECTS CENTRAL ARTERIAL BLOOD PRESSURE IN WOMEN

open access: yesArtery Research, 2009
Plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI-1) is the key inhibitor of the fibrinolytic system, modulating cellular responses associated with vascular remodeling.

Self-Defense, Defense of Others, and the State [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
With the wide spread of wireless technology, the time for 4G has arrived, and 5G will appear not so far in the future. However, no matter whether it is 4G or 5G, low latency is a mandatory requirement for baseband processing at base stations for modern ...

Nonnegative polynomials from vector bundles on real curves

open access: yes, 2013
We observe that the E-resultant of a very ample rank 2 vector bundle E on a real projective curve (with no real points) is nonnegative when restricted to the space of real sections.

Stabilization of Miscible Aqueous Phases via Diffusion‐Controlled Multifunctional Nanoparticle‐Ligand Complexation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a versatile approach to harnessing miscible aqueous domains, enabling liquid‐in‐liquid compartmentalization using a barrier formed in situ rather than bulk immiscibility. The barrier forms upon the complexation of multifunctional nanoparticles and ligands at the contact boundary of aqueous phases.

The prevalence of PAI-1 4G/5G polymorphism in women with fetal loss: First data for a Serbian population [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Biochemistry, 2014
Background: Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is an inhibitor of fibrinolysis. The PAI-1 4G/5G polymorphism is associated with elevated plasma levels of PAI-1.

Quantum dot-cavity strong-coupling regime measured through coherent reflection spectroscopy in a very high-Q micropillar

open access: yes, 2010
We report on the coherent reflection spectroscopy of a high-quality factor micropillar, in the strong coupling regime with a single InGaAs annealed quantum dot.

Ultrastable Photoactive Halide Perovskite Nanocrystal‐Sensitized SnO2 Nanorods for Room‐Temperature NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metal oxide (MOx)‐based NO2 gas sensors typically require high temperatures or ultraviolet light, limiting their practical use. To enable visible‐light activation at room temperature, efficient and stable photosensitizers should be integrated with nanostructured MOx hosts.

Copper‐Based Crystalline‐Metallic Glass Composite Thin Films: A Novel Material with Enhanced Strength and Thermally Stable Nanotwins

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Cu‐based crystal‐glass composite with high‐density twins is identified by a fast screening technique using combinatorial sputtering together with XRD and nanoindentation mapping. This bamboo‐like structure demonstrates homogenous plastic flow and retains high strength during in situ high temperature tests, up to 1 GPa at 550°C, owing to those ...
