Levels Of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural in dextrose injection
American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, 1977The levels of the degradation product, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF), in Dextrose Injection USP were determined by spectrophotometry. A freshly prepared solution of dextrose (1 g/2 ml) had a 5-HMF level of 0.10 mug/ml. The level in 50% dextrose injection, within 24 hours of manufacturing, was 0.72 mug/ml. The level of 5-HMF in 50% dextrose injection,

Parameters affecting 5-hydroxymethylfurfural exposure from beer
Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 20185-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is generated during food and beverage heating processes and/or storage. Its daily intake, estimated as 4-10 mg day-1, is several orders of magnitude higher than other process contaminants. Beer can be of relevance to the evaluation of HMF exposure; however, the information concerning its occurrence in different types of ...

Degradation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural during yeast fermentation
Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 20115-Hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) may occur in malt in high quantities depending on roasting conditions. However, the HMF content of different types of beers is relatively low, indicating its potential for degradation during fermentation. This study investigates the degradation kinetics of HMF in wort during fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Fluorometric measurement of furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural
Analytical Biochemistry, 1982Abstract Zine(II) forms highly fluorescent chelates with the aroyl hydrazones of furfural and 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, with the latter being more fluorescent than the former. The choice of aromatic acid hydrazide (aroyl hydrazine) as analytical reagents for furfurals was examined; 4-toluenesulfonic acid hydrazine was the most sensitive reagent ...

Electrocatalytic Hydrogenation of 5‐Hydroxymethylfurfural in Acidic Solution
ChemSusChem, 2015AbstractElectrocatalytic hydrogenation of 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is studied on solid metal electrodes in acidic solution (0.5 M H2SO4) by correlating voltammetry with on‐line HPLC product analysis. Three soluble products from HMF hydrogenation are distinguished: 2,5‐dihydroxymethylfuran (DHMF), 2,5‐dihydroxymethyltetrahydrofuran (DHMTHF), and 2 ...
