A conversation with 590 nascent entrepreneurs [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper summarizes interviews from 1998 with 590 individuals trying to create a business centered around five questions: “Who are you?”, “What are you trying to accomplish?”, “What have you and others put into the business?”, “What have you ...

Modeling the Infrared Emission from the HR 4796A Disk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We model the spectral energy distribution (SED) from the mid-infrared to submillimeter of the ring-like disk of HR 4796A, the dustiest A-type star. We consider dust made either of coagulated but otherwise unaltered protostellar interstellar grains, or ...

DNA‐Templated 2D Heterostructures as Phototriggered Dynamic Nanohybrids: From Releasing Molecular Loads to Controlling Enzyme Biocatalytic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DNA strands are employed both as dynamic linkers and nanoscale templates for the integration of Ag2S nanoparticles on MoS2, which in turn imparted photothermal responsiveness; this feature permits the selective cargo (fluorophore, quantum dots or an enzyme) release from the MoS2 surface in response to local heat induced by light irradiation.

MiR‐590 Promotes Transdifferentiation of Porcine and Human Fibroblasts Toward a Cardiomyocyte‐Like Fate by Directly Repressing Specificity Protein 1

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundReprogramming of cardiac fibroblasts into induced cardiomyocyte‐like cells represents a promising potential new therapy for treating heart disease, inducing significant improvements in postinfarct ventricular function in rodent models.

2W/nm Peak-power All-Fiber Supercontinuum Source and its Application to the Characterization of Periodically Poled Nonlinear Crystals

open access: yes, 2007
We demonstrate a uniform high spectral brightness and peak power density all-fiber supercontinuum source. The source consists of a nanosecond Ytterbium fiber laser and an optimal length PCF producing a continuum with a peak power density of 2 W/nm and ...

Deciphering Small Molecule Diffusion Parameters Across Light Responsive Polymersome Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Light‐responsive polymersomes bearing donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASAs) enable programmable control over small‐molecule transport across synthetic membranes. By systematically varying DASA density, an optimal functionalization regime is identified that maximizes light‐gated permeability.

Risk Management in E-Commerce—A Fraud Study Case Using Acoustic Analysis through Its Complexity

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
This work aimed to develop business intelligence towards fraud detection using buyer-placed information combined with the sound analysis from a confirmation purchase call. We used a dataset of 789 orders in 2018, provided by different e-commerce websites

A Fully Parameterized Fem Model for Electromagnetic Optimization of an RF Mems Wafer Level Package [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this work, we present a fully parameterized capped transmission line model for electromagnetic optimization of a wafer level package (WLP) for RF MEMS applications using the Ansoft HFSS-TM electromagnetic simulator.

Some covariance models based on normal scale mixtures

open access: yes, 2010
Modelling spatio-temporal processes has become an important issue in current research. Since Gaussian processes are essentially determined by their second order structure, broad classes of covariance functions are of interest.
