Chromosomal Localization of the 5S and 45S rDNA Sites and 5S rDNA Sequence Analysis in Nelumbo Species

The physical location of 45S and 5S rDNA sites by double-target fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and 5S rDNA non-transcribed spacer (NTS) sequences was studied in five accessions of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. and one accession of N. nucifera subsp. lutea (Willd.). The chromosome number of all tested materials was 2n=16.

Localization of the 5S rRNA genes and evidence for diversity in the 5S rDNA region of maize

Abstract The 5S rRNA genes of maize are located in the long arm of chromosome 2 (88% of the distance from the centromere to the end) and organized in a 320-bp repeat. Genomic blots of maize DNA digested with the restriction enzymes Bam HI and Msp I reveal ladders of bands in multiples of 320 bp.

Diverged 5s rRNA sequences adjacent to 5s rRNA genes in the rDNA ofPythium pachycaule

The non-transcribed spacer of the ribosomal DNA repeat of Pythium pachycaule was found to exist in two versions, one about 200 bp longer than the other. Both versions contained a conserved 5s rRNA gene in inverted orientation and a diverged copy of the 5s sequence as a tandem repeat, with a spacer of about 180 bp between them.

Physical mapping of 5S and 45S rDNA loci in pufferfishes (Tetraodontiformes)

Non-Random Distribution of 5S rDNA Sites and Its Association with 45S rDNA in Plant Chromosomes

5S and 45S rDNA sites are the best mapped chromosome regions in eukaryotic chromosomes. In this work, a database was built gathering information about the position and number of 5S rDNA sites in 784 plant species, aiming to identify patterns of distribution along the chromosomes and its correlation with the position of 45S rDNA sites.
