Young's modulus of polyelectrolyte multilayers from microcapsule swelling

open access: yes, 2003
We measure Young's modulus of a free polyelectrolyte multilayer film by studying osmotically induced swelling of polyelectrolyte multilayer microcapsules filled with the polyelectrolyte solution.

Improving HLA typing imputation accuracy and eplet identification with local next‐generation sequencing training data

open access: yesHLA, Volume 103, Issue 1, January 2024.
Assessing donor/recipient HLA compatibility at the eplet level requires second field DNA typings but these are not always available. These can be estimated from lower‐resolution data either manually or with computational tools currently relying, at best, on data containing typing ambiguities.

Elasticity of polyelectrolyte multilayer microcapsules

open access: yes, 2003
We present a novel approach to probe elastic properties of polyelectrolyte multilayer microcapsules. The method is based on measurements of the capsule load-deformation curves with the atomic force microscope.

Waveplate retarders based on overhead transparencies

open access: yes, 2007
We describe procedures for constructing inexpensive waveplates of desired retardation out of ordinary commercially available transparencies. Various relevant properties of the transparencies are investigated: the dependence of retardation on rotation of ...

START as the detector of choice for large-scale muon triggering systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Further progress in building high-granular large-scale systems based on Scintillation Tiles with MRS APD light readout (START) became possible thanks to the creation of an improved version of MRS APD.

Glass transition and alpha-relaxation dynamics of thin films of labeled polystyrene

open access: yes, 2008
The glass transition temperature and relaxation dynamics of the segmental motions of thin films of polystyrene labeled with a dye, 4-[N-ethyl-N-(hydroxyethyl)]amino-4-nitraozobenzene (Disperse Red 1, DR1) are investigated using dielectric measurements ...

Designing polymers for nuclear track detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This article describes our attempts since 1996 to systematically design andsynthesize monomers and corresponding polymers for nuclear track detection. So far more than 15 homopolymers.copolymers have been prepared and tested by us for this purpose.
