Using Photographs in Fishers’ Ecological Knowledge Research: A Review and Field Study on Small‐Scale Fishers’ Knowledge of Coastal Habitats in the Central Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 6, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Fishers interact daily with coastal environments, which generate a deep understanding of habitat characteristics, species associations and ecological change. Fishers’ ecological knowledge (FEK) is therefore a critical source of insight for marine science, offering observations that uniquely complement scientific data and, when incorporated ...

Temporal Shifts in Subtidal Rocky Benthic Communities Associated With the Invasion of Rugulopteryx okamurae in a Port Environment

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The invasive brown alga Rugulopteryx okamurae, native to the northwestern Pacific, has rapidly expanded along the European Atlantic coast, reaching the Basque Coast in 2023, and was likely already present in 2022. Using annual data from a monitoring survey conducted between 2010 and 2025, this study assesses the spatio‐temporal variability of ...

Optimized SPE‐HPLC‐FLD Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Olaparib, Propranolol, and Furosemide in Human Urine

open access: yesBiomedical Chromatography, Volume 40, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Olaparib belongs to the PARP inhibitors and is widely used as an anticancer drug. Due to frequent side effects, it is usually co‐administered with an antihypertensive, such as propranolol and/or an antidiuretic, such as furosemide. In this study, a highly sensitive HPLC‐FLD method was developed for the simultaneous determination of the three ...

Greenhouse Gas Flux Response in Biochar‐ and Compost‐Amended Lawn Soils Under Simulated Water Saturation Conditions

open access: yesCLEAN – Soil, Air, Water, Volume 54, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding greenhouse gas emission dynamics in lawn soils is important for improving climate change mitigation strategies in urban and suburban landscapes. In this greenhouse mesocosm study, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes were measured from 12 turfgrass soil columns arranged in an unreplicated ...

Estivation Strategies of Invasive Snail Pomacea canaliculata in Paddy Fields: Roles of Gut Microbiota and Digestive Gland Metabolism

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
During the summer fallow period, Pomacea canaliculata enters estivation under high temperature and drought stress yet maintains a survival rate exceeding 92%. Restructuring of the gut microbiota and metabolic adaptations in the liver, particularly the stability of fatty acid profiles, underpin its strong estivation tolerance.
