Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Uniqueness of A-infinity structures and Hochschild cohomology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Working over a commutative ground ring, we establish a Hochschild cohomology criterion for uniqueness of derived A-infinity algebra structures in the sense of Sagave.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

The translational relevance of the Annexin A1 pathway in inflammatory pathologies: opportunities for novel therapeutic development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
PhDEndogenous anti-inflammatory mediators form a complex network triggered in the host to dampen cell activation and promote resolution of inflammation.

HPLC chromatograms of products formed by oxidative refolding of A1 (A) and A1-A1 (B). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The proteins were dialyzed in redox buffer in the presence of calcium or EDTA and eluted with a linear gradient of 0.1% per minute of acetonitrile containing 0.1% TFA starting at 15 minutes from 21% of acetonitrile/TFA (for A1) or 26% of acetonitrile/TFA
