Investigating the Effect of Aspirin on apoAI-Induced ATP Binding Cassette Transporter 1 Protein Expression and Cholesterol Efflux in Human Astrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Biomedical Research
Background: Neurons need a high amount of cholesterol to maintain the stability of their membrane-rich structures. Astrocytes synthesize and distribute cholesterol to neurons, and ABCA1 is a key mediator of cholesterol efflux to generate HDL for ...

Biomedical Advances in ABCA1 Transporter: From Bench to Bedside

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2023
ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) has been identified as the molecular defect in Tangier disease. It is biochemically characterized by absence of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in the circulation, resulting in the accumulation of ...

136 HIV-1 Nef regulates activity of endoplasmic reticulum chaperone calnexin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
HIV-1 Nef promotes viral replication by downmodulating a number of cell surface transmembrane proteins, such as CD4, MHC-I and MHC-II, which are targeted by Nef to various degradation pathways.

The transcriptional and mutational landscapes of lipid metabolism-related genes in colon cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Metabolic alterations encountered in tumors are well recognized and considered as a hallmark of cancer. In addition to Warburg Effect, epidemiological and experimental studies support the crucial role of lipid metabolism in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Induction of the intestinal membrane transporters ABCA1 and ABCG8 by 27-hydroxycholesterol through a redox mechanism

open access: yesRedox Experimental Medicine
Objective: We tested the effect of 27-hydroxycholesterol (27OHC) on the expression and synthesis of two membrane transporters involved in sterols extrusion from the intestinal epithelium into the gut lumen: ATP-binding cassette A1 (ABCA1) and G8 (ABCG8).

Single‐Nucleus Multi‐Omics Reveals Hypoxia‐Driven Angiogenic Programs and Their Epigenetic Control in Sinonasal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐nucleus multi‐omics profiling of sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma unveils a hypoxia‐driven angiogenic axis. A specific hypoxic tumor subpopulation orchestrates endothelial tip cell differentiation via epigenetically regulated ADM and VEGFA secretion.

Postoperative Stress Accelerates Atherosclerosis Through Inflammatory Remodeling of the HDL Proteome and Impaired Reverse Cholesterol Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study shows that noncardiac surgical inflammation rapidly disrupts HDL function and cholesterol efflux in mice and human patients. Impaired reverse cholesterol transport after surgery drives rapid lipid accumulation, NETosis, and apoptosis within atherosclerotic plaques.

Porphyromonas gingivalis lipopolysaccharide alters atherosclerotic-related gene expression in oxidized low-density-lipoprotein-induced macrophages and foam cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The molecular mechanism between atherosclerosis formation and periodontal pathogens is not clear although positive correlation between periodontal infections and cardiovascular diseases has been reported.

Study of ABCA1 Function in Transgenic Mice [PDF]

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, 2003
The ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), identified in 1999 as the gene defective in Tangier disease, promotes efflux of cellular cholesterol from macrophages and other peripheral tissues to apolipoprotein acceptors. These ABCA1-mediated processes are anticipated to have antiatherogenic properties, prompting the development of pharmacological ...
