Extracellular vesicles transfer nuclear Abl-dependent and radiation-induced miR-34c into unirradiated cells to cause bystander effects. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ionizing radiation (IR) not only activates DNA damage response (DDR) in irradiated cells but also induces bystander effects (BE) in cells not directly targeted by radiation.

Soft‐Drug‐Inspired MnSTF Nano‐Adjuvant for Safe and Synergistic cGAS–STING Activation in Tumor Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces MnSTF, a soft‐drug‐inspired nanoadjuvant that overcomes the systemic toxicity of STING agonists. Through Mn2+ coordination with an ENPP1 inhibitor, it enables safe cGAS‐STING activation, remodels the tumor immune microenvironment, and synergizes with radiotherapy or vaccines to elicit robust antitumor immunity.

The functional interplay between the t(9;22)-associated fusion proteins BCR/ABL and ABL/BCR in Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphatic leukemia. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2015
The hallmark of Philadelphia chromosome positive (Ph(+)) leukemia is the BCR/ABL kinase, which is successfully targeted by selective ATP competitors. However, inhibition of BCR/ABL alone is unable to eradicate Ph(+) leukemia.

Activation of tyrosine kinases by mutation of the gatekeeper threonine. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Protein kinases targeted by small-molecule inhibitors develop resistance through mutation of the gatekeeper threonine residue of the active site. Here we show that the gatekeeper mutation in the cellular forms of c-ABL, c-SRC, platelet-derived growth ...

T Cell Exhaustion in Cancer Immunotherapy: Heterogeneity, Mechanisms, and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
T cell exhaustion limits immunotherapy efficacy. This article delineates its progression from stem‐like to terminally exhausted states, governed by persistent antigen, transcription factors, epigenetics, and metabolism. It maps the exhaustion landscape in the TME and proposes integrated reversal strategies, providing a translational roadmap to overcome

Expression of BCR/ABL p210 from a Knockin Allele Enhances Bone Marrow Engraftment without Inducing Neoplasia

open access: yesCell Reports, 2013
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and some acute lymphoblastic leukemias are characterized by the t(9;22) chromosome, which encodes the BCR/ABL oncogene. Multiple mouse models of CML express BCR/ABL at high levels from non-Bcr promoters, resulting in the ...

Combining tower mixing ratio and community model data to estimate regional-scale net ecosystem carbon exchange by boundary layer inversion over 4 flux towers in the U.S.A. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We evaluated an idealized boundary layer (BL) model with simple parameterizations using vertical transport information from community model outputs (NCAR/NCEP Reanalysis and ECMWF Interim Analysis) to estimate regional-scale net CO2 fluxes from 2002 to ...

Nucleoside‐Based Hydrogel Platform Synergizes with Photothermal Effects for Enhanced Biofilm Eradication Against Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A synergistic antibiofilm hydrogel platform (ZBAg@FNP) is developed by encapsulating an organic small‐molecule photothermal agent (FNP) within a silver ion‐mediated supramolecular hydrogel (ZBAg), enabling photothermal disruption of biofilm integrity and controlled Ag⁺ ion release upon irradiation.

Targeting the oligomerization of BCR/ABL by membrane permeable competitive peptides inhibits the proliferation of Philadelphia Chromosome positive leukemic cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The BCR/ABL fusion protein is the hallmark of Philadelphia Chromosome positive (Ph+) leukemia. The constitutive activation of the ABL-kinase in BCR/ABL cells induces the leukemic phenotype.

Modeling chronic periodontitis in rats: Persistent alveolar bone loss mediated by periodontal pathogens

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Irrigation of periodontal pockets with human periopathogens, in combination with a 14‐day ligature‐induced periodontitis protocol, significantly enhances alveolar bone loss and sustains bacterial colonization for up to 28 days following ligature removal, thereby more closely replicating the chronic nature of human periodontitis compared to the ligature
