Research on the Metal Ablation Thresholds of Picosecond Laser
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012Detailed studies on the ablation threshold of Mo with picosecond laser pulses are reported in this paper. The laser pulses used for the research were 1064 nm in wave length and 15 ps in pulse duration. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and optical surface analyzer were used to analyze the ablation sample, and by analyzing the linear relationship ...

On the threshold behavior in laser ablation of organic solids
Chemical Physics Letters, 1997The microscopic mechanisms of the fluence threshold behavior in laser ablation of organic solids have been delineated using a breathing sphere model and molecular dynamics simulations. Below threshold, evaporation is identified to occur and primarily single molecules are desorbed.

Co:MgF2 laser ablation of tissue: Effect of wavelength on ablation threshold and thermal damage
Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 1991AbstractThe wavelength dependence of the ablation threshold of a variety of tissues has been studied by using a tunable pulsed Co:MgF2 laser to determine how closely it tracks the optical absorption length of water. The Co:MgF2 laser was tuned between 1.81 and 2.14 μm, a wavelength region in which the absorption length varies by a decade.

Ablation threshold dependence on incident wavelength during ultrashort pulsed laser ablation
International Journal of Nanotechnology, 2017Ultrashort pulse laser micromachining is an advanced materials processing technique that allows "cold cutting" of almost any material. This is especially of interest in the semiconductor industry, where mechanical cutting of wafers generates large amounts of waste - if laser micromachining could be applied here, there is the potential for huge ...

Ultrafast laser irradiation of solids may ablate material off the surface. We study this process for thin films using molecular-dynamics simulation and thermodynamic analysis. Both metals and Lennard-Jones (LJ) materials are studied. We find that despite the large difference in thermodynamical properties between these two classes of materials---e.g ...

Diagonal scan measurement of Cr:LiSAF 20 ps ablation threshold
Applied Optics, 2008We report the measurement of the 20 ps ablation threshold of pure and Cr(3+) doped LiSAF samples using a simple method that employs a single scan of the sample across a focused laser beam waist. During the scan, a profile is etched in the sample surface, and the measurement of the maximum transversal size of the profile and the pulse peak power ...

Reduction in Atrial Defibrillation Threshold by a Single Linear Ablation Lesion
Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2001Single Lesion Lowers ADFT. Introduction: This study investigated a hybrid approach to reduce the atrial defibrillation threshold (ADFT) by determining the effect of a single linear radiofrequency ablation (RFA) lesion on both the ADFT and activation patterns during atrial fibrillation (AF).

Resonant Laser Ablation: Threshold Behavior and Semiquantitative Aspects
Laser Applications to Chemical Analysis, 1994Ever since the first report of laser action, it has been recognized that laser ablation (evaporation/volatilization) may provide a useful sampling mechanism for chemical analysis. In particular, laser ablation is rapidly gaining popularity as a method of sample introduction for mass spectrometry. Since its original description, numerous research papers

Investigation of Femtosecond Laser Ablation Threshold for Nickel Template
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014This paper presents a theoretical and experimental investigation into the ablation threshold of nickel template by femtosecond laser in air at atmospheric pressure. The laser pulses used for the study are 800 nm in wavelength, 100fs in pulse duration, and 1KHz in repetition rate.

Laser ablation threshold of YBa2Cu3O6+x
Applied Physics Letters, 1994Using projection optics we made a detailed study of the interaction of a spatially uniform 248 nm excimer laser beam and a 99% dense YBa2Cu3O6+x target. Below a threshold fluence of 1 J/cm2 the roughness of the irradiated target increases dramatically due to non-stoichiometric ablation. The overall target surface composition becomes increasingly Y rich
