ABO blood group system and bone marrow transplantation [PDF]
Blood, 1977The role of the ABO blood group system in determining the outcome of bone marrow transplantation was investigated in 53 patients with aplastic anemia and acute leukemia grafted from HLA-identical siblings. There was no correlation between ABO compatibility and marrow engraftment, graft rejection, or graft-versus-host disease.

Detection of a weaker subgroup of A in ABO blood group system. [PDF]
Asian J Transfus Sci, 2022Testing to detect ABO incompatibility between a donor and potential transfusion recipient is the foundation on which all other pretransfusion testing is based. Sometimes, weak agglutination reactions may be obtained with reagent antibodies due to weak expression of A and B antigens on red blood cell (RBC) surface which may ...

ABO blood group system and occurrence of ischemic stroke [PDF]
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2021Background: Ischemic stroke (IS) is a multifactorial disease that presents high rates of morbimortality in Brazil. Several studies proved that there is a link between the ABO blood group system and the occurrence of thrombotic events.

Molecular genetics and genomics of the ABO blood group system [PDF]
Annals of Blood, 2021The A and B oligosaccharide antigens of the ABO blood group system are produced from the common precursor, H substance, by enzymatic reactions catalyzed by A and B glycosyltransferases (AT and BT) encoded by functional A and B alleles at the ABO genetic ...

The Lebanese COVID-19 Cohort; A Challenge for the ABO Blood Group System. [PDF]
Front Med (Lausanne), 2020A sudden outbreak of pneumonia caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has rapidly spread all over the world facilitating the declaration of the resultant disease as a pandemic on March 2020. Predisposing factors for acquiring COVID-19 and for developing a severe form of this disease were postulated to be related to ...

The ABO blood group system and Plasmodium falciparum malaria [PDF]
Blood, 2007In the century since the discovery of the ABO blood groups, numerous associations between ABO groups and disease have been noted. However, the selection pressures defining the ABO distributions remain uncertain. We review published information on Plasmodium falciparum infection and ABO blood groups.

ABO blood group system and gastric cancer: a case-control study and meta-analysis. [PDF]
Int J Mol Sci, 2012This study focuses on the association between the ABO blood group system and the risk of gastric cancer or Helicobacter pylori infection. The data for the ABO blood group was collected from 1045 cases of gastric cancer, whereby the patient underwent a ...

Biological and clinical aspects of ABO blood group system
The Journal of Medical Investigation, 2008The ABO blood group was discovered in 1900 by Austrian scientist, Karl Landsteiner. At present, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) approves as 29 human blood group systems. The ABO blood group system consists of four antigens (A, B, O and AB). These antigens are known as oligosaccharide antigens, and widely expressed on the membranes
