The Clinical Significance of Warm Autoantibodies during Pregnancy

open access: yesTransfusion Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives The objective of the current study is to determine the clinical significance of a warm autoantibody detected in patients during pregnancy. Background There are few published studies concerning the clinical significance of warm autoantibodies during pregnancy.

Genetic variants in the CD59 gene: An exploratory study of large genome databases

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background CD59 is a GPI‐anchored glycoprotein on the surface of many cell types. It inhibits the assembly of the membrane attack complex, thus preventing complement‐mediated cell lysis. Lack of a functional CD59 protein causes recurrent ischemic strokes, neuropathy, and chronic hemolysis.

The prevalence and timing of seroconversion during pregnancy—A retrospective study to enable safe transfusion

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background During pregnancy, exposure to fetal red blood cell antigens can trigger alloimmunization. To enable safe transfusion of compatible blood for pregnant individuals where urgent surgery might be necessary, blood bank standards mandate a valid blood type and antibody screening every 72 h (“3‐day rule”).

An experimental comparison and user evaluation of three different dried plasma products

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Access to blood components in pre‐hospital bleeding resuscitation is challenging. Dried plasma is a logistically superior alternative, and new products are emerging. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate laboratory and practical differences in three differently produced dried plasma products.

Stable SARS‐CoV‐2 antibody levels and functionality in serum and COVID‐19 convalescent plasma after long‐term storage

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic necessitated various therapeutic approaches, including convalescent plasma (CP) administration. The administration timing of COVID‐19 CP (CCP), antibody specificity and quantity were identified as crucial factors for therapeutic success.

Characterization of the in vitro quality parameters of cold‐stored platelets containing aggregates

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Cold‐stored platelets (CSP) are being used more widely for the treatment of bleeding because of their longer shelf life. However, storage at low temperatures can induce the formation of platelet aggregates. We aimed to study the impact of aggregate formation on platelet quality and function.
