Absolute Purity

Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1975
Throughout this paper we use the Bourbaki [1] conventions for rings and modules: all rings are associative but not necessarily commutative and have a 1; all modules are unital. Our purpose is to extend and simplify some recent results of Maddox [7], Megibben [8], Enochs [3], and the author [5] on absolutely pure modules by introducing several new ...

On Absoluteness

Mathematical Logic Quarterly, 1989
Absoluteness of formulas is a notion occurring in the study of transitive models of set theory. In this paper absoluteness will be tried to be studied as a condition on constants of set theory as for some sense of real existence, i.e. among the ``very obscure'' sets we want the absolute ones classify as ``less obscure''.

Easy Absolute Values? Absolutely

Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, 2015
When we ask algebra students to tell us about absolute value, we usually get an answer along the lines of “something that is always positive.” Students immediately question their answer when asked about the absolute value of zero (0). Sometimes our more advanced students say that it has a V-shaped graph or mention the piecewise definition.

Absolute auditory threshold: testing the absolute

European Journal of Neuroscience, 2017
AbstractThe mechanisms underlying the detection of sounds in quiet, one of the simplest tasks for auditory systems, are debated. Several models proposed to explain the threshold for sounds in quiet and its dependence on sound parameters include a minimum sound intensity (‘hard threshold’), below which sound has no effect on the ear.

ABSOLUTE AND NON-ABSOLUTE HYPERBOLES

Конференции, 2021
This article defines the term "stylistic trope of anti-hyperbole" as opposed to "hyperbole". Also, the communicative analysis of anti-hyperbole, its absolute and non-absolute forms, is illustrated in English and Uzbek with examples in the verbal field.

Absolute tonality versus absolute piano

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1985
Earlier studies of the ability of individuals to recognize when excerpts from Bach's “Well-Tempered Clavichord” has been shifted upward or downward from the original key by 1 or 4 semits suggested that almost all musicians were able to recognize the direction of these shifts at a better than chance level, even those who professed little or no ability ...
