Research on Absolute Distance Measurement

2019 2nd World Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing (WCMEIM), 2019
Using frequency sweep interference to measure distance, which is an effective new method. In the process of theoretical derivation, this paper is based on the principle of interference of light to establish a functional relationship between distance and phase.

Micrometer-precision absolute distance measurement with a repetition-rate-locked soliton microcomb.

Optics Letters, 2023
The soliton microcomb has sparked interest in high-precision distance measurement, owing to its ultrahigh repetition rate and chip-integrated scale. We report absolute distance measurements based on synthetic wavelength interferometry with a soliton ...

Absolute Distance Measurement Using Optical Sampling by Cavity Tuning

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2016
We propose here an interferometric method for absolute distance measurement using optical sampling by cavity tuning. The cross correlation patterns can be obtained by constantly changing the repetition frequency of a femtosecond pulse laser, and the distances can be determined by the instantaneous repetition rate of the peak of the interferogram.

Absolute distance measurement using frequency sweeping interferometry with large swept range and target drift compensation

Measurement science and technology, 2023
Frequency sweeping interferometry (FSI) is an attractive absolute distance measurement (ADM) method because of the advantages of large unambiguity range, simple structure and excellent flexibility.

Absolute Distance Measurement by a Decentralized and Distributed Multi-Lasertracker-System

2022 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM), 2022
Lasertrackers with interferometric distance measurement can be used for precise distance determination. Here, we present a decentralized distributed multi-lasertracker-system, which applies the method of triangulation to determine the absolute distance ...

Measurements of absolute long distances

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
The production of large components, e. g. in aerospace industries, requires flexible and yet highly precise measurement techniques to determine absolute lengths of up to one hundred metres. Two different approaches are presented in this paper. One is based on a time-of-flight measurement, using a femtosecond frequency comb as an advanced modulator.

Absolute Distance Measurements Using a Noisy Interferometer

CLEO/Europe Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 1998
The spectrum of white light passing through a Michelson interferometer develops a sinusoidal modulation, the frequency of which is determined by the path difference between the interferometer arms. Dispersive white light interferometry is capable of measuring relatively large distances (hundreds of µm) with high precision, and without moving parts ...

Tunable Laser Diode for Absolute Distance Measurements

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe, 1996
Tunable and narrow linewidth semiconductor lasers are useful in variety of measurement such as a spectroscopy1 and heterodyne optical communication system. Our application is to use this tunable laser diode for absolute distance measurement. At first we have developped an external cavity in the Liftman configuration, composed by a commercial laser ...

Absolute distance measurements by variable wavelength interferometry

Applied Optics, 1981
This paper describes a laser interferometer which provides absolute distance measurements using tunable lasers. An active feedback loop system, in which the laser frequency is locked to the optical path length difference of the interferometer, is used to tune the laser wavelengths.

Absolute distance measurement using femtosecond laser

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Possibilities of using recently-developed femtosecond pulse lasers for advanced precision length metrology are investigated. Special emphasis is placed on the use of femtosecond lasers particularly for absolute distance measurements with sub-micrometer accuracy over extensive ranges.
