VLBI astrometry of PSR J2222-0137: a pulsar distance measured to 0.4% accuracy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The binary pulsar J2222-0137 is an enigmatic system containing a partially recycled millisecond pulsar and a companion of unknown nature. Whilst the low eccentricity of the system favors a white dwarf companion, an unusual double neutron star system is ...

Dual-comb-based multi-axis time-of-flight measurement via high-efficiency optical cross-correlation in a semiconductor optical amplifier

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2023
Absolute distance measurement for multiple targets is required in industrial and scientific fields such as machine monitoring, detection of distortion in large structures, wafer alignment in semiconductor manufacturing, and the formation flying of ...

Absolute Depth Measurement Using Multiphase Normalized Cross-Correlation for Precise Optical Profilometry

open access: yesSensors, 2019
In a multifrequency phase-shifting (MFPS) algorithm, the temporal phase unwrapping algorithm can extend the unambiguous phase range by transforming the measurement range from a short fringe pitch into an extended synthetic pitch of two different ...

Absolute distance measurement with sub-fringe resolution [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Conference on Space Optics — ICSO 2010, 2019
A novel technique to measure absolute distances is presented. It is based on a Michelson interferometer where two tuneable lasers are superposed to create a synthetic wavelength. Relative and absolute interferometry theories are merged together. Its experimental realization allows absolute distance measurements with subfringe resolution.

Heart Rate and Distance Measurement of Two Multisport Activity Trackers and a Cellphone App in Different Sports: A Cross-Sectional Validation and Comparison Field Study

open access: yesSensors, 2021
Options for monitoring sports have been continuously developed by using activity trackers to determine almost all vital and movement parameters. The aim of this study was to validate heart rate and distance measurements of two activity trackers (Polar ...

Uncertainty relations for general phase spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We describe a setup for obtaining uncertainty relations for arbitrary pairs of observables related by Fourier transform. The physical examples discussed here are standard position and momentum, number and angle, finite qudit systems, and strings of ...

Optical Setup for Error Compensation in a Laser Triangulation System

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Absolute distance measurement is a field of research with a large variety of applications. Laser triangulation is a well-tested and developed technique using geometric relations to calculate the absolute distance to an object.

Characteristics of Distance Errors of Infrared Sensor Relation to Colour Surfaces

open access: yesActa Technologica Agriculturae, 2022
This paper deals with the determination of the absolute errors of a small time of flight (ToF) distance sensor with respect to coloured surfaces at different illumination intensities.

First cosmological results using Type Ia supernovae from the Dark Energy Survey: measurement of the Hubble constant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present an improved measurement of the Hubble constant (H0) using the `inverse distance ladder' method, which adds the information from 207 Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) at redshift 0.018 < z < 0.85 to existing distance

Improvement of Distance Measurement Based on Dispersive Interferometry Using Femtosecond Optical Frequency Comb

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Since the dispersive interferometry (DPI) based on optical frequency combs (OFCs) was proposed, it has been widely used in absolute distance measurements with long-distance and high precision.
