Method for Measuring Absolute Optical Properties of Turbid Samples in a Standard Cuvette

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Many applications seek to measure a sample’s absorption coefficient spectrum to retrieve the chemical makeup. Many real-world samples are optically turbid, causing scattering confounds which many commercial spectrometers cannot address.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

A new simple method for determining the sound absorption coefficient

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Taking into account the influence of the length and diameter of the impedance tube on the process of decay of sound waves, a new study of sound propagation in an impedance tube is presented, on the basis of which it is easier to determine the sound ...

Mass Transfer in a closed stirred gas/liquid contactor: Part 2: The liquid phase mass transfer coefficient kL [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
The liquid phase mass transfer coefficient kL for the absorption of oxygen in tap water and in ionic solutions has been calculated from the quotien\ud \ud It is concluded that the liquid phase mass transfer coefficient is roughly proportional to the ...

Temperature dependent refractive index and absorption coefficient of congruent lithium niobate crystals in the terahertz range.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
Optical rectification with tilted pulse fronts in lithium niobate crystals is one of the most promising methods to generate terahertz (THz) radiation. In order to achieve higher optical-to-THz energy efficiency, it is necessary to cryogenically cool the ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

On the effect of superfluid flows on the interaction of microwaves with He II [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The paper proposes a possible mechanism of interaction of microwaves with superfluid helium that results in an experimentally observed narrow peak of microwave absorption on the frequencies by the order of the roton frequency.
