Influence of Annealing on the Optical and Scintillation Properties of CaWO$_4$ Single Crystals

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the influence of oxygen annealing on the room temperature optical and scintillation properties of CaWO$_4$ single crystals that are being produced for direct Dark Matter search experiments.

A numerical study of a method for measuring the effective in situ sound absorption coefficient [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The accuracy of a method [Wijnant et al., “Development and applica- tion of a new method for the in-situ measurement of sound absorption”, ISMA 31, Leuven, Belgium (2010).], for measurement of the effective area-averaged in situ sound absorption ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Akytojo betono garso absorbcijos tyrimai/Porous concrete sound absorption investigation

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 1996
Low-density porous concrete can be used as a sound absorbing material. This paper generalizes porous concrete sound absorption investigations. Porous concrete relative wave resistance modulus is longer than air wave resistance W=1 and that is why this

Room-temperature excitonic absorption in quantum wires

open access: yes, 2005
We measured absorption spectra of T-shaped quantum wires at room temperature using waveguide-transmission spectroscopy. Strong and narrow room-temperature one-dimensional-exciton absorption peak was observed, which shows peak modal absorption coefficient

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Formula for the Absorption Coefficient for Multi-Wall Nanotubes

open access: yes, 2010
We present a formalism for calculating the absorption coefficient of a pair of coaxial tubules. A spatially nonlocal, dynamical self-consistent field theory is obtained by calculating the electrostatic potential produced by the charge density ...

Modelling of Stochastic Absorption in a Random Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We report a detailed and systematic study of wave propagation through a stochastic absorbing random medium. Stochastic absorption is modeled by introducing an attenuation constant per unit length $\alpha$ in the free propagation region of the one ...

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

On-demand prediction of low-frequency average sound absorption coefficient of underwater coating using machine learning

open access: yesResults in Engineering
This study proposes an underwater coating with sound absorption ability in the middle-to-low frequency range and establishes an acoustic theoretical model combining the equivalent medium theory and the transfer matrix method.
