Estimating Population Abundance Using Sightability Models: R SightabilityModel Package

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2012
Sightability models are binary logistic-regression models used to estimate and adjust for visibility bias in wildlife-population surveys (Steinhorst and Samuel 1989).

Estimating the Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment Inflows: How Important are Sampling and Omitted Variable Biases? [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper investigates the importance of factor endowment vis-à-vis institutions in explaining the locational choice of foreign investors during the 1990s.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Trade structure and growth [PDF]

open access: yes
Lederman and Maloney examine the empirical relationships between trade structure and economic growth, particularly the influence of natural resource abundance, export concentration, and intra-industry trade.

Generalized linear mixing model accounting for endmember variability

open access: yes, 2017
Endmember variability is an important factor for accurately unveiling vital information relating the pure materials and their distribution in hyperspectral images.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Endmember Analysis of Overlapping Handwritten Text in Hyperspectral Document Images

open access: yesIEEE Access
Hyperspectral Imaging (HSI) uses large portions of the electromagnetic spectrum to obtain information from images that would be very difficult to get otherwise.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Reliability of trans‐generational genetic mark–recapture (tGMR) for enumerating Pacific salmon

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications
As Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.) decline across much of their range, it is imperative to further develop minimally invasive tools to quantify population abundance.

Do capture and survey methods influence whether marked animals are representative of unmarked animals?

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 2015
Radiocollared animals are frequently used to estimate detection probabilities in aerial surveys. The aircraft used to conduct these surveys may also have been used to aid in the capture of these animals, and recently captured animals may react to hearing
