Analysis of the Structural Behavior Evolution of Reinforced Soil Retaining Walls Under the Combined Effects of Rainfall and Earthquake

open access: yesBuildings
Major earthquakes and rainfall may occur at the same time, necessitating further investigation into the dynamic characteristics and responses of reinforced soil retaining walls subjected to the combined forces of rainfall and seismic activity. Three sets

Computational Experiments on the Step and Frequency Responses of a Three-Axis Thermal Accelerometer

open access: yesSensors, 2017
The sensor response has been reported to become highly nonlinear when the acceleration added to a thermal accelerator is very large, so the same response can be observed for two accelerations with different magnitudes and opposite signs. Some papers have

The structural response of a rail accelerator [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1984
The transient response of a 0.4 by 0.6 cm rectangular bore rail accelerator was analyzed using a three-dimensional finite-element code. Results are presented for the case of a 210-kA current input and 5-cm arc length. Typically, the copper rail deflected to a peak value of 0.08 mm in compression and then oscillated at an amplitude of 0.02 mm ...

Behavioural responses to infrasonic particle acceleration in cuttlefish [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2018
ABSTRACT Attacks by aquatic predators generate frontal water disturbances characterised by low-frequency gradients in pressure and particle motion. Low-frequency hearing is highly developed in cephalopods. Thus, we examined behavioural responses in juvenile cuttlefish to infrasonic accelerations mimicking main aspects of the hydrodynamic

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Nonlinear Acceleration and Deceleration Response Behavior in Stimulus-Response Car-Following Models

open access: yes, 2013
This study developed a nonlinear family of car-following models that emulate driving behavior in congested freeway traffic conditions. The study developed separate sub-models for acceleration and deceleration responses.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

High-Resolution Permanent Magnet Drive Using Separated Observers for Acceleration Estimation and Control

open access: yesSensors, 2022
This paper proposes a high-resolution permanent magnet (PM) motor drive based on acceleration estimation and control. The PM motor is widely implemented in the printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing process.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
