Background: Recovery from neuromuscular blockade is commonly assessed by clinical signs. There exists wide disparity in what is recommended to monitor neuromuscular blockade and routine clinical practice by anesthesiologists. The objective signs of train-

Effective doses of cisatracurium in the adult and the elderly [PDF]
BackgroundThere are few information about the differences of the effective dose (ED) of cisatracurium between the adult and the elderly. We investigated the ED and the onset time of cisatracurium in the adults and the elderly.MethodsWe studied two ...

Objectives To evaluate the perioperative efficacy of a modified supratemporal retrobulbar block in dogs undergoing ocular surgery. Materials and Methods In this prospective randomised clinical trial, dogs were premedicated with dexmedetomidine (1 mcg/kg im) and methadone (0.1 mg/kg im), induced with propofol to effect and maintained with isoflurane (FE'

WAYS OF PREVENTION SYNDROME OF INTRA-ABDOMINAL HYPERTENSION IN BARIATRIC SURGERY
Patients with obesity who have undergone intra-abdominal endoscopic intervention belong to the category of patients with an increased risk of developing the syndrome of intra-abdominal hypertension (SIAH), which dictates the need to develop interventions

Abstract Background During rapid sequence induction, either rocuronium 1.0 mg kg−1 or suxamethonium 1.0 mg kg−1 can be administered to facilitate endotracheal intubation. We hypothezised that rocuronium provided a larger proportion of excellent intubating conditions compared to suxamethonium in elderly patients.

The precision of the compact Mini-Accelograph (M-A) was compared with the Myograph 2000 (MYO). Neuromuscular block resulting from atracurium was measured simultaneously by the MYO and the M-A applied to contralateral thumbs. During onset, the M-A frequently underestimated the extent of block (maximal at approximately 50% twitch depression).

ABSTRACT Background Neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) are a crucial component of anesthesia and intensive care through the relaxation of skeletal muscles. They can lead to adverse reactions such as postoperative residual neuromuscular block. Only one agent is capable of an instant block reversal in deep block situations, but is restricted to ...

We have compared tactile assessment of the train-of-four (TOF) count and TOF ratio by nursing staff, with measurements made by a new acceleromyographic monitor, the TOF-Watch. We assessed neuromuscular block in 30 sedated intensive care patients receiving a continuous infusion of atracurium.
