Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Acceptance of Digital Discharge Management Interventions Among Patients After Bariatric Surgery: A Cross-Sectional Study

open access: yesSafety
Bariatric surgery is an effective long-term treatment for severe obesity, but relapse rates remain high. Digital interventions can enhance patient care, yet research on the intention to use digital discharge management interventions is lacking.

Improving quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease: influence of acceptance and personality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background. A low health-related quality of life (HQL) is associated with the evolution of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and mortality in patients in end-stage of the disease. Therefore research on psychological determinants of HQL is emerging.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Acceptance of Biogas in Islamic Boarding School Surakarta

open access: yesSustinere: Journal of Environment and Sustainability
The increasing population growth in Indonesia has an impact on increasing energy needs and depleting global energy sources. One of the ways to fulfill high global energy levels can be through the use of renewable energy in the form of biogas.

A characteristic of Bennett's acceptance ratio method

open access: yes, 2009
A powerful and well-established tool for free-energy estimation is Bennett's acceptance ratio method. Central properties of this estimator, which employs samples of work values of a forward and its time reversed process, are known: for given sets of ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Mobile Advertising and its Acceptance by American Consumers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mobile advertising creates opportunities for marketers to capture the attention of consumers on a one-to-one basis. However, there is little data proving the success of mobile advertising models.
