Role-Based Access Control and the Access Control Matrix
ACM SIGOPS Operating Systems Review, 2001The Access Matrix is a useful model for understanding the behaviour and properties of access control systems. While the matrix is rarely implemented, access control in real systems is usually based on access control mechanisms, such as access control lists or capabilities, that have clear relationships with the matrix model.

Summary: The effectiveness of an access control mechanism in implementing a security policy in a centralized operating system is often weakened because of the large number of possible access rights involved, informal specification of security policy and a lack of tools for assisting systems administrators.

Access control for SDN controllers
Proceedings of the third workshop on Hot topics in software defined networking, 2014Based on the OpenFlow model, we propose an access control scheme for SDN controllers. Our scheme accounts for the different network resources, multiple security requirements, conflicts originating from the reconfiguration of network components, and the delegation of access permissions.

We propose a novel access control approach for pervasive computing environments. Sentential Access Control uses a constructed language similar to rudimentary English as the basis for intuitive context-aware security policy specification. The elements of sentences in this language map directly to fundamental security abstractions that allow us to apply ...

Personalizing access control by generalizing access control
Proceedings of the 15th ACM symposium on Access control models and technologies, 2010We address the problem of providing data subjects with self-selected controls on access to their personal information. Existing approaches for this are not always sufficient in terms of offering the degrees of control and scope for individualization of access policies that are needed for personal data protection (and usage).

Proceedings of the 1971 ACM SIGFIDET (now SIGMOD) Workshop on Data Description, Access and Control - SIGFIDET '71, 1971
The problems of authorization for a multiple-user resource sharing data processing system are discussed. The requirements for access of objects to other objects are covered in some detail. A model is then developed in which the above requirements are contained, in order to devise a conceptual framework for actual design of an access control system.

A Middleware for Access Control
2012 13th International Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing, Applications and Technologies, 2012In fine-grained access control, each data item has its own access control policy. The entity that wants to access a data item needs to provide its credentials to the policy enforcer to allow the enforcer to check the eligibility of the entity. This paper describes a middleware that relieves the programmers from carrying out the complicated fine-grained
