Access control by action control
Proceedings of the 13th ACM symposium on Access control models and technologies, 2008We address the problem of defining access control policies that may be used in the evaluation of requests made by client actors, in the course of e-trading, to perform actions on the resources maintained by an e-collective. An e-collective is a group of agents that may act individually or in conjunction with other agents to satisfy a client's request ...

Managing access control policies using access control spaces
Proceedings of the seventh ACM symposium on Access control models and technologies, 2002We present the concept of an access control space and investigate how it may be useful in managing access control policies. An access control space represents the permission assignment state of a subject. We identify subspaces that have meaningful semantics.

List-oriented systems integrate protection of an object with the object; ticket oriented systems delegate this responsibiIity to the call hierarchy. We argue that there are situations where integration of protection with the object is more natural, but Iist-oriented systems, due to the static and declarative nature of access-Iists, are too weak for any

18th Annual IEEE Symposium of Logic in Computer Science, 2003. Proceedings., 2003
Access control is central to security in computer systems. Over the years, there have been many efforts to explain and improve access control, sometimes with logical ideas and tools. This paper is a partial survey and discussion of the role of logic in access control.

A number of approaches have been developed to modularize parts of multiuser computer systems so that access to each part can be controlled. The devices of rings and capabilities are two examples. However, today's systems are notably incomplete and subject to defeat by determined and clever users.

Authorization and Access Control
2007Access control is the process of controlling every request to a system and determining, based on specified rules (authorizations), whether the request should be granted or denied. The definition of an access control system is typically based on three concepts: access control policies, access control models, and access control mechanisms.
