Loss of amplitude of accommodation in pre-presbyopic HIV and AIDS patients under treatment with antiretrovirals

open access: yesAfrican Vision and Eye Health, 2017
Background: The prevalence of HIV and AIDS is causing an enormous public health burden. Its manifestations spare no organ. Ocular complications are mainly attributed to various opportunistic infections which are directly or indirectly caused by immune ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

Patterns of Nonlinearity in the Ratio of Stimulus Accommodative Convergence to Accommodation

open access: yes, 1996
Background: This study disputes the assumption that the stimulus accommodative convergence to accommodation (AC/A) ratio is linear. Subjects and Methods: Accommodative convergence induced by minus lenses of varying power (-1.50 to -6.00DS, at intervals

Towards Multifocal Displays with Dense Focal Stacks

open access: yes, 2018
We present a virtual reality display that is capable of generating a dense collection of depth/focal planes. This is achieved by driving a focus-tunable lens to sweep a range of focal lengths at a high frequency and, subsequently, tracking the focal ...

Time outdoors and the prevention of myopia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Recent epidemiological evidence suggests that children who spend more time outdoors are less likely to be, or to become myopic, irrespective of how much near work they do, or whether their parents are myopic.

NKCC1: A key regulator of glioblastoma progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma (GBM) progression is driven by disrupted chloride cotransporter homeostasis. NKCC1 is highly expressed in stem‐like, astrocytic, and progenitor cells, correlating with earlier recurrence, while overall survival remains unaffected. NKCC1 serves as a prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target, linking chloride transporter imbalance ...

Longitudinal circulating tumor DNA profiling in patients with advanced endometrial cancer using an off‐the‐shelf targeted NGS panel

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumour heterogeneity complicates precision management of advanced endometrial cancer. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) offers a minimally invasive strategy to capture tumor evolution and therapeutic resistance. Here, we compare tumor‐agnostic NGS with tumor‐informed ddPCR, outlining their relative sensitivity, concordance, and clinical implications ...

The influence of tinted lenses upon ocular accommodation

open access: yesVision Research, 2001
We determined the effect upon accommodative responses of tinted lenses prescribed for the relief of visual discomfort in a group of five long term lens wearers. Static and dynamic responses were measured under four viewing conditions (1) prescribed tinted lens (2) neutral density filter (3) tinted lens of complementary colour and (4) no absorptive lens.
