Calculations of the Energy Accommodation Coefficient for Gas-Surface Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
Calculations are carried out for the energy accommodation coefficient at a gas-surface interface using a recently developed classical mechanical theory of atom-surface collisions that includes both direct scattering and trapping-desorption processes in the physisorption well of the interaction potential. Full three-dimensional calculations are compared

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Polarons and charge carrier solvation on conjugated carbon chains: A comparative ab initio study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We study accommodation of an excess charge carrier on long even-N polyynic oligomers C_{N}H_{2} due to displacements of the underlying carbon lattice and polarization of the surrounding solvent in the context of carrier self-localization into a polaronic state.

Protonophore activity of short‐chain fatty acids induces their intracellular accumulation and acidification

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The protonated form of butyrate, as well as other short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), is membrane permeable. In acidic extracellular environments, this can lead to intracellular accumulation of SCFAs and cytosolic acidification. This phenomenon will be particularly relevant in acidic environments such as the large intestine or tumor microenvironments ...

Adaptive Interface for Accommodating Colour-Blind Users by Using Ishihara Test [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Imperative visual data frequently vanishes when color applications are seen by partially color blind users. A new method for adaptive interface for accommodating color blind users is presented. The method presented here has two sections: 1) test client perceivability by utilizing Ishihara plates.

Identification of functional and diverse circulating cancer‐associated fibroblasts in metastatic castration‐naïve prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) promote cancer growth, invasion (metastasis), and drug resistance. Here, we identified functional and diverse circulating CAFs (cCAFs) in patients with metastatic prostate cancer (mPCa). cCAFs were found in higher numbers and were functional and diverse in mPCa patients versus healthy individuals, suggesting their ...
