Acidic hydrolysis of pyrimidine deoxyribonucleotides

Abstract The rates of acidic N-glycosyl cleavage of the 3′- and 5′-phosphates of deoxycytidine and thymidine have been studied. The pH-rate profiles and thermodynamic parameters for the hydrolyses resemble those of the parent nucleosides. It is likely that the A-1 mechanism observed with the nucleosides also operates at the nucleotide level.

Abstract The hydrolysis of mucopolysaccharides with dilute hydrochloric acid was studied. Glycosidic bond cleavage of the β- D - and α- L -linked mucopolysaccharides occurred with unexpected facility and produced partially sulfated and N -acetylated disaccharides as well as higher oligosaccharides and smaller proportions of monosaccharides.
