Deposition of acidifying compounds in Sweden

Water, Air, & Soil Pollution, 1995
The Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL) has monitored deposition of acidifying compounds in Sweden. The monitoring programmes were initiated by various air quality protection associations, and regional forest and environmental authorities.

A classification of acidified catchments in Britain

Environmental Pollution, 1992
To compare catchments of possible acidified waters in Britain an extensive database was compiled for nearly 600 catchments of lakes and streams for which chemical data were available. Information on the database included map-derived data, pollutant deposition estimates and hydrological characteristics.

Decomposition of thiosulphate in acidified oxidants

Talanta, 1967
The Wollack procedure has been used to study the competition between oxidant and acid for the thiosulphate ion. In concentrated hydrochloric acid solutions of iodine, iodate and chloramine-T, polythionates are the chief products, whereas in acid permanganate substantial amounts of other products occur.

Effects of pH and temperature on heterotrophic bacteria in acidified and non‐acidified lochs

Journal of Applied Bacteriology, 1993
An investigation into the impact of acidification on bacterial populations in Scottish lochs revealed that in the range pH 3.8–6.5, increasing acidity had little effect on activities and diversities of aerobic heterotrophs. Only one organism, a Cytophaga species, showed reduced numbers at ...

Disinfection of Bacillus spores with acidified nitrite

Chemosphere, 2014
Disinfecting water generated from a bioterrorism contamination event will require large amounts of disinfectant since the volume of water flushed from a drinking water distribution system or wash water collected from a contaminated outdoor area can accumulate quickly.

Growth and metabolic activity of a cheese starter in CO 2 -acidified and non-acidified refrigerated milk

Zeitschrift fr Lebensmitteluntersuchung und -Forschung A, 1998
The growth and activity of two Lactococcus strains and one Leuconostoc strain in CO2-acidified and non-acidified refrigerated milk were evaluated separately and as a mixed culture to determine their suitability for use as a starter in the manufacture of Afuega’l Pitu, an acid-coagulated Spanish cheese, from refrigerated CO2-acidified milk.

Study of the Toxicological Mechanism of Acidified Aerosols

Biological Trace Element Research, 2002
More than 30 aerosol samples were collected from 1 place near Zaojiaban Road (downtown of Shanghai) and 1 village near Jiading country (suburb) by a stacked-filter air sampler. The coarse particulates (>2.5 microm) and the fine particulates (PM2.5) and their unsoluble parts were analyzed by proton-induced X-ray emission.

The Global Distribution of Acidifying Wet Deposition

Environmental Science & Technology, 2002
The acid-base status of precipitation is a result of a balance between acidifying compounds--mainly oxides of sulfur and nitrogen--and alkaline compounds--mainly ammonia and alkaline material in windblown soil dust. We use current models of the global atmospheric distribution of such compounds to estimate the geographical distribution of pH in ...
