Biochar-immobilized Sphingomonas sp. and Acinetobacter sp. isolates to enhance nutrient removal: potential application in crab aquaculture

open access: yesAquaculture Environment Interactions, 2020
The frequency of water exchange and reducing the risk of eutrophication to surrounding water bodies have always been water-quality control issues in recirculating aquaculture systems.

Comparison of Three Sympatric Desert Lizards: Digestive Tract Structure, Digestive Enzyme Activities, Gut Microbiota, and Metabolites

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
We performed 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolite profiling for three sympatric lizard species—Teratoscincus roborowskii, Phrynocephalus axillaris, and Eremias roborowskii—and compared their goblet cell and enzyme activities in the digestive tract. Our study suggests that the dietary niche may promote divergence or convergence of microbiota across host ...

Increased constituent ratios of Klebsiella sp., Acinetobacter sp., and Streptococcus sp. and a decrease in microflora diversity may be indicators of ventilator-associated pneumonia: a prospective study in the respiratory tracts of neonates.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a common complication and cause of death in neonates on mechanical ventilation. However, it is difficult to define the causes of VAP.

Evolutionary and Epidemiological Characterization of Multidrug‐Resistant Escherichia coli Isolated From Pangolins in China

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Malayan pangolin populations have fallen to a critically endangered level, and illegal trafficking of wild pangolins is a global problem. Little is known about antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria (MDRB) harbored by pangolins, although pangolins are frequently consumed as food or used in traditional medicine. In this study, we report for the first

Effects of GLP‐1 agonists on the gut microbiota in type 2 diabetes mellitus: a systematic review

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
This systematic review evaluated 17 studies (12 preclinical and five clinical) on GLP‐1 receptor agonists in type 2 diabetes, demonstrating effects on the gut microbiota and metabolic improvement. The studies showed an increase in Bacteroidetes, Lactobacillus, and Akkermansia, and a reduction in Firmicutes.
