Risk Adjustment in the Medicare Advantage Population Using Encounter Data

open access: yesHealth Services Research, Volume 61, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To estimate the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) risk model using Medicare Advantage (MA) encounter data, as an initial step toward recalibrating risk‐adjusted MA payments. Data Sources and Study Setting A 20% sample of Traditional Medicare (TM) claims and MA encounter data for ...

Childhood lung function predicts adult COPD and asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACOS)

open access: yes, 2017
RATIONALE: There are limited data on early life risk factors for COPD phenotypes. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the role of childhood lung function in adult spirometrically defined COPD phenotypes. METHOD: Pre-bronchodilator (BD) spirometry was performed for

Liver and Spleen Stiffness as Non‐Invasive Tools Assessing Liver Congestion in Patients With Budd‐Chiari Syndrome

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Assessing liver congestion and portal hypertension (PHT) in Budd–Chiari syndrome (BCS) remains challenging. We evaluated liver and spleen stiffness measurements (LSM, SSM) obtained by transient elastography as non‐invasive tools for identifying clinically meaningful liver congestion in BCS.

Spatial and temporal evolution of a coastal erg margin: The Middle Jurassic Page Sandstone, southern Utah, USA

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 2081-2119, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Aeolian deflationary events are erosive to static stages where sediment supply is insufficient to support bedform migration and preservation in the rock record. In the vicinity of shallow‐marine environments, inland rises of relative water table and associated generation of deflationary super surfaces may be driven by the onset of ...

An Activity‐Based Inversion Framework for Estimating Sectoral Anthropogenic CO2 Emissions Using Multi‐Pollutant Satellite Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract This study develops an activity‐based inversion framework to quantify sectoral carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions using observations of co‐emitted air pollutants. It leverages distinct sectoral co‐emission profiles of nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon monoxide (CO) to attribute sources and optimize sectoral activity‐rate ...

Recent Applications of Propylene Carbonate as a Solvent in Sustainable Organic Synthesis

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 17, 14 September 2026.
This review evaluates propylene carbonate (PC) as a non‐toxic green solvent in organic synthesis, highlighting its performance in key reactions including cross‐couplings, asymmetric hydrogenations, peptide synthesis and biocatalysis. Across these processes, PC delivers yields comparable to conventional and alternative green solvents.
