Point interactions in acoustics: one dimensional models [PDF]
A one dimensional system made up of a compressible fluid and several mechanical oscillators, coupled to the acoustic field in the fluid, is analyzed for different settings of the oscillators array. The dynamical models are formulated in terms of singular

Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

We discuss some general aspects of acoustic black holes. We begin by describing the associated formalism with which acoustic black holes are established, then we show how to model arbitrary geometries by using a de Laval nozzle.

Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.

A Brief Review of Specialty Optical Fibers for Brillouin-Scattering-Based Distributed Sensors
Specialty optical fibers employed in Brillouin-based distributed sensors are briefly reviewed. The optical and acoustic waveguide properties of silicate glass optical fiber first are examined with the goal of constructing a designer Brillouin gain ...

Observation of edge waves in a two-dimensional Su-Schrieffer-Heeger acoustic network
In this work, we experimentally report the acoustic realization the two-dimensional (2D) Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model in a simple network of air channels. We analytically study the steady state dynamics of the system using a set of discrete equations

Local Thermal Conductivity Patterning in Rotating Lattice Crystals of Anisotropic Sb2S3
Microscale control of thermal conductivity in Sb2S3 is demonstrated via laser‐induced rotating lattice crystals. Thermal conductivity imaging reveals marked thermal transport anisotropy, with the c axis featuring amorphous‐like transport, whereas in‐plane directions (a, b) exhibit 3.5x and 1.7x larger thermal conductivity.

Astrophysical Accretion as an Analogue Gravity Phenomena [PDF]
In recent years, strong analogies have been established between the physics of acoustic perturbations in an inhomogeneous dynamical fluid system, and some kinematic features of space-time in general relativity.

Special transformations for pentamode acoustic cloaking
The acoustic cloaking theory of Norris (2008) permits considerable freedom in choosing the transformation function f from physical to virtual space. The standard process for defining cloak materials is to first define f and then evaluate whether the ...
