Regular modes in rotating stars
Despite more and more observational data, stellar acoustic oscillation modes are not well understood as soon as rotation cannot be treated perturbatively.

Dispersion profiles and surface acoustic wave attenuation characteristics of ring-shaped phononic crystals are investigated as a function of the core pillar height. Finite element method simulations are carried out for both band analyses and transmission

Recent Progress in Distributed Brillouin Sensors Based on Few-Mode Optical Fibers
Brillouin scattering is a dominant inelastic scattering observed in optical fibers, where the energy and momentum transfer between photons and acoustic phonons takes place.

Second and third season QUaD CMB temperature and polarization power spectra [PDF]
We report results from the second and third seasons of observation with the QUaD experiment. Angular power spectra of the Cosmic Microwave Background are derived for both temperature and polarization at both 100 GHz and 150 GHz, and as cross frequency ...

Stretched-exponential Doppler spectra in underwater acoustic communication channels [PDF]
The theory of underwater sound interacting with the sea surface predicts a Gaussian-spread frequency spectrum in the case of a large Rayleigh parameter. However, recent channel soundings reveal more sharply peaked spectra with heavier tails. The measured Doppler spread increases with the frequency and differs between multipath arrivals.

Phonon confinement and size effect in Raman spectra of ZnO nanoparticles
We study Raman spectra of ZnO nanoparticles of 5–12 nm size in the whole range of the first-order phonon bands. We apply the 3D phonon confinement model (PCM) for the interpretation of the observed Raman spectra.

Quantum interference between dark-excitons and zone-edged acoustic phonons in few-layer WS2
Here, the authors investigate the Raman spectra of few-layered WS2 when the excitation energy is in resonance with the dark exciton, and observe a Fano resonance between dark excitonsand zone-edge acoustic phonons.

Optical characterization of electron-phonon interactions at the saddle point in graphene
The role of electron-phonon interactions is experimentally and theoretically investigated near the saddle point absorption peak of graphene. The differential optical transmission spectra of multiple, non-interacting layers of graphene reveals the ...

In recent years, the autocorrelation of the hydrogen Lyman-{\alpha} forest has been used to observe the baryon acoustic peak at redshift 2 < z < 3.5 using tens of thousands of QSO spectra from the BOSS survey.
