Clinical Classification of Acquired Concomitant Esotropia

Klinische Monatsblatter Fur Augenheilkunde, 2021
Abstract Background Classification and management of acquired concomitant esotropia is controversial. We sought to establish a simple clinical classification in order to determine in which cases further investigations in search of underlying pathologies are necessary.

Acquired distance esotropia associated with myopia

Strabismus, 2004
Von Graefe (1864)(1) and Bielschowsky (1922)(2) described acquired progressive esotropia, with typically a larger angle for distance than near, associated with moderate myopia. This is unlike the esotropia seen in patients with high myopia. We reviewed our patient records, finding 26 cases: 14 were female, 12 male. Age range at first presentation was 37-

Enhancing Surgery for Acquired Esotropia

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1988
ABSTRACT In acquired esotropia, operating only on the nonaccommodative angle often results in under-correction. To decrease the frequency of this outcome, we enhanced surgery in a preliminary study by operating for a target angle equal to half the sum of the distant non-accommodative angle (minimum 12 prism diopters) plus the distant angle ...

Acquired Cyclic Esotropia in an Adult

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1981
A 67-year-old women developed periodic alternate-day esotropia, documented with videotape, 16-mm film, and quantitative eye-movement recordings, after retinal detachment surgery. The eye movements suggested that central reprocessing and adaptation to a peripheral defect was in part responsible for this adult form of acquired cyclic esotropia.

Intentional Surgical Overcorrection of Acquired Esotropia

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1978
Fifty-eight patients with surgically treated acquired nonaccommodative esotropia were studied retrospectively, to ascertain what immediate surgical result gives the best chance for a postoperative bifoveal fusional result. Of the cases that were initially overcorrected (exodeviations), approximately two thirds were fusing six months or more after ...

Acquired nonaccommodative esotropia in childhood

Journal of American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, 2001
Acquired nonaccommodative esotropia (ANAET) in childhood is reported to occur infrequently and is often associated with an underlying neurologic or neoplastic disorder. The primary objective of this study was to ascertain the prevalence and clinical characteristics of this form of childhood esotropia.A cohort of all children younger than 11 years with ...
