ABSTRACT Background In this planned ancillary analysis of our completed clinical trial, we hypothesized that among older children with sickle cell anemia (SCA) and severe acute malnutrition, those with higher levels of food insecurity would have lower end‐of‐trial body mass index (BMI) z‐scores compared to their peers with SCA and lower levels of food ...

Determining the strength of 3D printed concrete with the modified slant shear test
Abstract This study deals with the assessment of the load‐bearing capacity of layered 3D printed concrete (3DPC) using a modified slant shear test (MSST) to define a Mohr's envelope. To this aim, the established modified Coulomb yield condition of the concrete is complemented by a Coulomb failure criterion of the layer joints (cold or dry joints).

Lack of efflux mediated quinolone resistance in Salmonella enterica serovars Typhi and Paratyphi A. [PDF]
International audienceSalmonella enterica serovars Typhi and Paratyphi A isolates from human patients in France displaying different levels of resistance to quinolones or fluoroquinolones were studied for resistance mechanisms to these antimicrobial ...

This review highlights computational approaches for discovering antimicrobials against carbapenem‐resistant Enterobacterales. It outlines methods like pharmacophore modeling, molecular docking, and absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion–toxicity (ADMET) analysis, integrated with in vitro assays, to identify and validate potential drugs ...

Dead cells release a ‘necrosignal’ that activates antibiotic survival pathways in bacterial swarms
Swarming bacterial populations can exhibit antibiotic resistance, despite sustaining considerable cell death. Here, Bhattacharyya et al. show that killed cells release periplasmic protein AcrA, which activates efflux pumps on the surface of live cells ...

Phenotypic and Genotypic Efflux Pumps in Resistance to Fluoroquinolones in E.coli Isolated from Inpatients in Kermanshah Hospitals in 2013 [PDF]
Background: Antibiotic resistance rates in E. coli are rapidly rising, especially with regard to fluoroquinolones. One of the mechanisms that lead to antibiotic resistance is efflux pumps.
