Thelytochous parthenogenesis inCereus pedunculatus (Actiniaria)

Anthopleura and the phylogeny of Actinioidea (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Actiniaria)
Organisms Diversity & Evolution, 2017Members of the sea anemone genus Anthopleura are familiar constituents of rocky intertidal communities. Despite its familiarity and the number of studies that use its members to understand ecological or biological phenomena, the diversity and phylogeny of this group are poorly understood.

ABSTRACT In a bottle of corals, which had been collected from the reefs at Papeete during the expedition of H.M.S. “Challenger,” and sent to me by Mr. John Murray for investigation, I was fortunate enough to meet with three small specimens of an Actin-arian, which differs so markedly from all known types, that it will apparently ...

Locomotion by Epiactis prolifera (Coelenterata: Actiniaria)
Marine Biology, 1976Overlay maps were used to study locomotion by the externally brooding actinian Epiactis prolifera Verrill, 1869, in the rocky intertidal zone near Bodega Bay, California, USA. A greater proportion of non-brooding individuals moved than did brooding ones.

Formation of the Apical Flaps in Nematocysts of Sea Anemones (Cnidaria: Actiniaria)
The Biological Bulletin, 2009Using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, we studied formation of the structure at the apical end of sea anemone nematocysts through which the tubule everts at discharge. In anemones of the genus Metridium, we found that each of the three solid triangular apical flaps comprises two layers that are continuous with those of the capsule wall ...
