Trends in Microbiology, 1995RTX toxins are pore-forming, cytolytic protein toxins that occur widely among pathogenic Gram-negative bacteria. RTX toxins appear to play a direct role in the virulence of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, the etiological agent of porcine pleuropneumonia.
