A Medium for the Isolation and Enumeration of Oral Actinomycetaceae from Dental Plaque

open access: closedJournal of Dental Research, 1976
A supplemented, infusion-based medium that supports the growth of most oral Actinomycetaceae is described. The inclusion of NaF and colistin sulfate enabled actinomyces to be isolated from dental plaque in the Presence of few other oral microorganisms.

Enumeration and identification of Actinomycetaceae in human dental calculus using the fluorescent antibody technique

open access: closedArchives of Oral Biology, 1973
Abstract Thirty-three specimens of dental calculus were examined for species of Actinomyces, Arachnia, Rothia and Bacterionema using the fluorescent antibody (FA) technique. Each specimen contained 2–4 species of Actinomyces with A. israelii being present in 99 per cent of the specimens but A. bovis was not found in any specimen.
