Isolation, biochemical and molecular identification of Nocardia species among TB suspects in northeastern, Tanzania; a forgotten or neglected threat?

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2017
Background Pulmonary nocardiosis mimic pulmonary tuberculosis in most clinical and radiological manifestations. In Tanzania, where tuberculosis is one of the major public health threat clinical impact of nocardiosis as the cause of the human disease ...

The microbiota–gut–brain axis in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease: a scoping review of human studies

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Alzheimer's disease (AD) is projected to become the highest‐burden neurological disorder globally. Mounting evidence implicates the gut microbiome in AD pathogenesis. This scoping review of gut microbiomes in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and AD included dietary and probiotic interventions.

Alcohol‐Related Liver Disease and Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Steatotic Liver Disease: Molecular Pathogenesis and Therapeutic Interventions

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
Alcohol‐related (ALD) and metabolic dysfunction‐associated (MASLD) steatotic liver disease, while initiated by distinct etiologies (ethanol vs. metabolic stress), converge on shared core pathogenic pathways that drive progression. These include dysregulated lipid metabolism, programmed cell death, cellular senescence, gut dysbiosis, and immune ...

Synthetic Polyploidisation Enhances Fusarium graminearum Tolerance in Wheat by Reshaping the Transcriptome and Strengthening the Microbiome

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 11, Page 5252-5278, November 2025.
ABSTRACT Polyploidisation is a natural evolutionary mechanism that enhances plant stress tolerance and environmental adaptability; however, its impact on microbiome homeostasis remains poorly understood. In this study, we selected a nascent euploid synthetic hexaploid wheat line (HG116; 2n = 6x = 42, BBAADD) by selfing a triploid F1 hybrid of Triticum ...

Primary and Secondary Symbionts of Cambodian Cicadellidae and the Role of Parasitisation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2025.
Leafhoppers are key agricultural pests, and their interactions with parasitoids may be influenced by microbial symbionts. In this study, we characterized the bacterial communities of six Cambodian leafhopper species and their parasitoids, finding that while Sulcia dominates leafhopper microbiotas, parasitoids exhibit higher microbial diversity.

Systematic Review on the Role of Microfluidic Platforms in Advancing Scalable and Precise Microbial Bioprocessing

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, Volume 25, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Microbial bioprocessing is a key technology for the production of a wide range of biomolecules, including proteins, enzymes, antibiotics, and other bioactive compounds. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in using microfluidic platforms for bioprocessing, due to the ability to precisely control and manipulate fluids at the ...

Master of Puppets: How Microbiota Drive the Nematoda Ecology and Evolution?

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
The nematode microbiota can influence life‐history traits, thereby shaping the species' ecology and evolutionary trajectories. ABSTRACT In recent decades, the microbiota has emerged as a key driver of biological functions in metazoans, and nematodes are no exception.

Exploring the Gut and Oral Microbiomes in Psychoactive Substance Use: A Scoping Review of Clinical Studies

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 7, July 2025.
Substance use disorders are linked to high treatment dropout rates and limited therapeutic options. Clinical studies show that substance use disrupts gut and oral microbiomes, decreasing beneficial bacteria and increasing proinflammatory and opportunistic microbes.
