Bifurcations and Proarrhythmic Behaviors in Cardiac Electrical Excitations

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2022
The heart is a hierarchical dynamic system consisting of molecules, cells, and tissues, and acts as a pump for blood circulation. The pumping function depends critically on the preceding electrical activity, and disturbances in the pattern of excitation ...

Effective string picture for confinement at finite temperature: theoretical predictions and high precision numerical results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The effective string picture of confinement is used to derive theoretical predictions for the interquark potential at finite temperature. At short distances, the leading string correction to the linear confining potential between a heavy quark-antiquark ...

Parent‐to‐Child Information Disclosure in Pediatric Oncology

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Despite professional consensus regarding the importance of open communication with pediatric cancer patients about their disease, actual practice patterns of disclosure are understudied. Extant literature suggests a significant proportion of children are not told about their diagnosis/prognosis, which is purported to negatively ...

Thinking About the Nerve Impulse: The Prospects for the Development of a Comprehensive Account of Nerve Impulse Propagation

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
Currently, a scientific debate is ongoing about modeling nerve impulse propagation. One of the models discussed is the celebrated Hodgkin-Huxley model of the action potential, which is central to the electricity-centered conception of the nerve impulse ...

Radiotherapy Delivery in Deep Inspiration for Pediatric Patients—Final Results of the Phase II Feasibility Study TEDDI

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction The TEDDI trial tested the feasibility and reproducibility of deep‐inspiration breath‐hold (DIBH) in pediatric patients referred for radiotherapy. This report presents final results, including patient‐reported outcomes (PRO) and dosimetric comparison of DIBH and free‐breathing (FB).

Gauge Invariant Action for the Open Bosonic String: Tachyon Action

open access: yes, 2009
A gauge invariant action for the open bosonic string has been proposed in an earlier paper. We work out the consequences of this proposal for the lowest mode, viz. the tachyon.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Improved Outcomes for Older Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults With Neuroblastoma in the Post‐Immunotherapy Era: An Updated Report From the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background We describe clinical and biologic characteristics of neuroblastoma in older children, adolescents, and young adults (OCAYA); describe survival outcomes in the post‐immunotherapy era; and identify if there is an age cut‐off that best discriminates outcomes.

Path integral Monte Carlo study of the interacting quantum double-well model: Quantum phase transition and phase diagram

open access: yes, 2007
The discrete time path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) with a one-particle density matrix approximation is applied to study the quantum phase transition in the coupled double-well chain.
