Human Action Recognition with Transformers
2022Having a reliable tool to predict the actions performed in a video can be very useful for intelligent security systems, for many applications related to robotics and for limiting human interactions with the system. In this work we present an architecture trained to predict the action present in digital video sequences.

The meaning of action: a review on action recognition and mapping [PDF]
In this paper, we analyze the different approaches taken to date within the computer vision, robotics and artificial intelligence communities for the representation, recognition, synthesis and understanding of action. We deal with action at different levels of complexity and provide the reader with the necessary related literature references.

Discovering distinctive action parts for action recognition
2014 IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP), 2014Recent methods based on mid-level visual concepts have shown promising capability in human action recognition field. Automatically discovering semantic entities such as parts for an action class remains challenging. In this paper, we focus on discovering distinctive action parts for recognition of human actions by learning and selecting a small number ...

Self-recognition: body and action
Trends in Cognitive Sciences, 2002How do I know it was me who moved? A recent experimental study illustrates the contribution of one's body schema and awareness of one's own actions to self-recognition. The results provide evidence that bodily cues and action cues are important in self-recognition, and they demonstrate that action cues overrule bodily cues.

Human action invarianceness for human action recognition
2015 9th International Conference on Software, Knowledge, Information Management and Applications (SKIMA), 2015The uniqueness of the human action shape or silhouete can be used for the human action recognition. Acquiring the features of human silhouette to obtained the concept of human action invarianceness have led to an important research in video surveillance domain. This paper discusses the investigation of this concept by extracting individual human action

Action recognition in spatiotemporal volume
2010 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition - Workshops, 2010We recognize actions and activities in video sequences as distinguishing patterns in the 3D spatiotemporal volume of motion energy. Local motion descriptors, which capture highly discriminative invariant motion characteristics in a spherical neighborhood, are computed in the 3D volume at points of salient motion to represent actions or activities in ...

A method for human action recognition
Image and Vision Computing, 2003Abstract This article deals with the problem of classification of human activities from video. Our approach uses motion features that are computed very efficiently, and subsequently projected into a lower dimensional space where matching is performed.

Methods for analyzing humans and their actions from monocular or multi-view video data are required in many different applications. In this chapter simple LBP-based approaches for action recognition are introduced. The methods perform very favorably compared to the state-of-the-art for test video sequences commonly used in the research community.

Action recognition is one of the most active research fields in computer vision. This chapter first reviews the action recognition methods in literature from two aspects: action representation and recognition strategy. Then, a novel method for classifying human actions from image sequences is investigated.

Discriminative EdgeBoxes for Action Recognition
2016 26th International Conference on Computer Theory and Applications (ICCTA), 2016Due to the huge amount of online videos uploaded and viewed every day, there is an emerging need nowadays for action recognition techniques. These techniques need to consider the large variations in camera motion, viewpoint, cluttered background, etc.
