Coupled-barrier diffusion: the case of oxygen in silicon

open access: yes, 1995
Oxygen migration in silicon corresponds to an apparently simple jump between neighboring bridge sites. Yet, extensive theoretical calculations have so far produced conflicting results and have failed to provide a satisfactory account of the observed $2.5$

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Thermodynamic properties and drying kinetics of ‘okara’

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental
‘Okara’ is the insoluble part obtained after the aqueous extraction of soybeans, generated in large quantities as a by-product of the ‘tofu’ industry or soybean water-soluble extract. This work aimed to study ‘okara’ convective drying kinetics, determine

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

KINETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF DIFFERENT PHENYTOIN POLYMORPHS BY DSC TECHNIQUE

open access: yesVitae, 2009
The activation energy variation can be used as a quick measure to differentiate polymorphs of active pharmaceutical ingredients. In this paper diverse phenytoin crystal habits have been obtained through processes of recrystallization in different ...

Material Morphology and energy barriers to electrical ageing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
A distribution of the parameters representing activation energy of the ageing process within the Dissado-Montanari-Mazzanti (DMM) lifetime model has been shown to model experimental lifetime distributions of PET films well.

Magnetic order and energy-scale hierarchy in artificial spin ice

open access: yes, 2018
In order to explain and predict the properties of many physical systems, it is essential to understand the interplay of different energy-scales. Here we present investigations of the magnetic order in thermalised artificial spin ice structures, with ...

Energy Homeostasis, Autonomic Activity and Obesity [PDF]

open access: yesObesity Research, 1995
Obesity is often accompanied by alterations in both sympathetic and parasympathetic autonomic functions. The present paper summarizes the results of a number of studies designed to investigate autonomic functioning in normal, genetically, and experimentally obese rats. Particular emphasis is given to autonomic functioning and dysfunctioning in relation

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
