Numerical Study of the Effect of Corona Discharge on Upward Wake Flow in the Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Farm [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
Many countries worldwide are showing a growing interest in renewable energy sources, with wind energy being a particularly appealing option for generating mechanical energy.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...

Synthetic Jet Actuators for Active Flow Control: A Review

open access: yesFluids
A synthetic jet actuator (SJA) is a fluidic device often consisting of a vibrating diaphragm that alters the volume of a cavity to produce a synthesized jet through an orifice.

Effects of Input Voltage and Freestream Velocity on Active Flow Control of Passage Vortex in a Linear Turbine Cascade Using Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Actuator

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Passage vortex exists as one of the typical secondary flows in turbomachines and generates a significant total pressure loss and degrades the aerodynamic performance. Herein, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuator was utilized for an active

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Improving the Lift Characteristics of Supersonic Double 257 Wedge Airfoil at Low Speed Using Passive-Active Flow Controlling Methods [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2015
The supersonic double wedge airfoil performs quite excellent in the supersonic speed regime but would lead to poor performance at subsonic speed regime due to sharp edges stall.

Active Flow Control for Helicopters

open access: yes, 2013
Several active flow control helicopter applications aimed at improving aerodynamic performance have been studied at Onera and are presented in this paper. The distinction between applications for non-rotating or non-lifting parts and for rotating parts is presented.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

An Experimental Investigation by Particle Image Velocimetry of the Active Flow Control of the Stall Inception of an Axial Compressor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power
This paper presents results from active flow control experiments carried out on a single stage axial compressor. The flow under various forced conditions has been investigated using 2D 2C particle image velocimetry (PIV) on three radial planes along the ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...
